Job/Work Experience: No job.

Teacher Recs: As good as anyone's elses

Location/Person:

Optional Essay Submitted: Yes. It was about how I grew up in an apartment, but always wanted a house.

State or Country: The good part of Washington state

School Type, Average Stats of School: I kinda overdramatized how bad it was else where on CC, but in reality it's just a school like any other.

Gender: Female

Hooks: URM maybe

Strengths/Weaknesses: URM valedictorian, rather unusual ECs/Sub-par test scores

Why you think you were accepted/wait listed/denied: I pulled the wrong card. At this level admission is like the lottery. It's useless to try to rationalize why you got what you got. Especially since you can't change it.

Other Factors:
congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I was 99% per cent sure that I was going to be rejected, so waitlisted ain't too bad. I felt bad for about 5 minutes, but I'm over it now. I didn't want Yale no where near as much as some other people on this board, so I'd be an ass to complain about being waitlisted when so many other people got rejected. Honestly, I had some reservations about attending anyway, something about Yale never felt quite right. Right after I checked my Yale decision, I checked Brown and I got in.
YAY!!! So I think I'm gonna go make some friends on the Brown board.

[] State or Country: VA, USA
[] School Type, Average Stats of School: public, about 65% black, has IB program (5% black...by their choice) and we're supposedly #62 in the nation based on how many tests we take. Yep.
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[] Income Bracket: 80-100K
[] Gender: Female
[] Hooks: None whatsoever that I can think of.
[] Strengths/Weaknesses: English/social skills? And math. I guess I don't have horrible social skills after all. That's good to know.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/wait listed/denied: I have no idea. Truly. Must have been they liked my grades AND my essay and I fit what they wanted at that particular moment...(see "funny stuff" at the end)[/li][/ul]Other Factors: ........
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: When I first saw the blue screen, I was shocked...started screaming and laughing like a maniac...then got on tonight and saw that I'd been wait-listed at Brown and Harvard, whose letter was ironically placed into my "junk mail" folder. That was when I started laughing like a maniac for the second time. I was very glad I had opened Yale's first, and am very glad that, after careful review, I am not just using this way to deal with any pain--I actually do find these circumstances funny!

Good, that whittles down my choices. I needed that :)

Decision: ACCEPTED!

Stats:[ul]

[] SAT IIs: Math IIC-790 Literature (Crap, I really can't remember)-750 U.S. History-690
[] ACT: 35
[] APs: Uh, this is where it gets sad. Last year, took US History and Calc. AB and got 4's on both. This year, taking Macro, Micro, Psych, and US Gov (all online). To be fair, my school only offers the two that I took last year.
[] IBs: N/A
[] GPA, Weighted and Unweighted: 4.2/4.0
[] Rank: 1/19
[] Senior Yr Courseload: Second Semester-Advanced Art, Chemistry, AP Psych, AP Macro. From a community college-American Lit., English Comp. 2, and Sociology
[] Number of Apps from Your School: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Umm, 1.
[] Other stats:
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] ECs listed on app: Trained/Showed horses, Volleyball (captain and honorable mention all-conference this year, not recruited), FFA, NHS, Class President Jr. Year, Spanish Club, 4-H, Club Volleyball, Quiz Bowl, Studio Art (not a club, just a hobby; I sent a portfolio)
[] Job/Work Experience: Menial work in retail for about 1.5 years, but I quit this past summer so I wasn't employed when I applied.
[] Essays (subject and responses): I wrote about training my first horse and what I learned from it, etc. Nobody really read except my sister, who liked it. I liked it a lot too, I think it's some of my best work.
[] Teacher Recs: I only read one of them, and it was really good.
[] Counselor Rec: It was very complimentary, but it was kinda short and impersonal.
[] Interview (feel and general location): I didn't have an alumni interview. I interviewed at Yale over the summer, I didn't feel like I connected with the woman at all, it was kinda stiff.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] Optional Essay Submitted? No
[] State or Country: Iowa
[] School Type, Average Stats of School: Public, K-12 with only about 80 kids in the high school. It's in a rural area, mostly low income, no honors courses or anything, besides a couple AP's. I think I'm the first to ever apply or be accepted to an Ivy League school.
[] Ethnicity: white
[] Income Bracket: middle class
[] Gender: female
[] Hooks: Well, the horse training thing is unusual, don't know if it's a hook. I'm from an area that's not too highly represented. Also, I did a summer college thing in architecture (my major) last year; I got A's in both classes and I think it maybe showed commitment to my interests...I dunno.
[] Strengths/Weaknesses: Strengths: I really don't know, I guess just the things listed in 'hooks' Weaknesses: Low subject test scores (APs and SAT IIs), Weaker courseload compared to many
[li] Why you think you were accepted/wait listed/denied: I don't know, I like to think it's because my true genius just leapt off the page.[/li][/ul][ b]Other Factors:**
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:

Congrats to all, including those that didn't get in. If you are good enough to apply to Yale, you're going to get into SOMEONE's first choice. I found out that I was waitlisted at Harvard earlier today, and I was absolutely crushed..it was my dream school. But then I found out that Yale's decisions came out today, and when I heard that little bulldog song...well, a lot of that weight was lifted. :) Moral of the story, it's all gonna work out and you're gonna go somewhere great...and I am easily amused by songs with barking in them.

Decision: Access Denied

Stat's take too long, and let's be honest, most of us just read the heading anyway.

I copied this from a former poster...
Accepted: Princeton, Duke, WashU, Emory, Richmond, Colby, Washington and Lee, William and Mary
Dubya-listed: Brown
Rejected: Yale (boo hiss)
Pending: Middlebury

Ravenna, I'm in your same boat. And additionally, laughed when I read about you laughing. Admissions is so unpredictable anymore.
