wait princessbell, so we compete against others in our region for spots at yale? does anyone know what the regions look like? thanks!

aren't the regions done by state?

are they really? i don't know

well, i do know that there are regional officers who read the applications of all kids from a certain area...yale i guess narrows it down further to states for some areas that have huge college-bound populations like MD/NY, but I'm sure they must group the states that don't. It'd be stupid to have a single admissions officer for say, wyoming.

I believe central and south jersey is paired with western connecticut and one of the elite boarding schools as a region. I'm guessing from who we have as admissions officers.

hai guys!

i made a facebook group!!!! All of us should join so that we can relieve some of that EA stress.

Login | Facebook

If that link doesn't work, search for "Y>HPSM" and you'll find us!

is anyone else not sleeping over this long wait??

is there anyway we can find out sooner?

You dudes can get a better idea about what life at Yale is like by checking out this blog by some Yale freshmen in one of the residential colleges:

www.timothydwight.blogspot.com

I go to a school in West Virginia (about 200 seniors), but I'm the only Yale EA.
Georgetown-1 EA 3 RD
Yale - Me and then 2 RD
Harvard- 1 RD
Johns Hopkins- 3 RD
(Pretty much the same kids though.)

I go to a huge public school that has a special honors-ish program with a lot of smart kids, but even so the majority go to UMD (which is a good school, I must admit).

I know of:
4 Princeton RD
4 Harvard RD
2 Yale RD
1 Yale EA (MEEEEEEEEEEE)
1 Stanford RD
3 MIT RD

There are probably more but it's really hard to know where people are applying unless they're your friends in such a large school.

so on that part of the yale website where it talks about contacting your regional admissions officer - are the states with the same officer in the same region - aka west virginia, virginia, delaware and maryland are in the same region?

Probably. I think they lump northern virginia and southwestern maryland together, but it might be by states.

er, if it's any help, I know that for the states with bigger populations, they break it up. like California has 3 regional officers. I imagine most of the midatlantic states probably have their own regional officers too.

eating food: hmmm maybe I should apply to UMD as a backup
voice #1: uhhhh idk, do you really-
voice #2: yes! logic says you should do it!
eating food: well if logic says it, I must!
..... 3 months later.... only gets into Maryland because he didn't apply to more safeties
eating food: ...crap.

^ Don't let this be YOU!!!! (hehhe I broke the mold and am the only one in my school not applying to UMD)

Same here! I'm not applying to Rutgers-NB :)

I didn't know the financial aid deadline was Nov. 1....and then I went ahead to apply for Yale SCEA. Will I be deferred to regular action because of that? or rejected?

sorry I forgot to say i didn't apply for the financial aid, but checked yes on my common application

I'm heading over to the Stanford board to lower my expectations some...
