you said "they wouldn’t go ahead and only accept the Questbridge people without considering them in the context of everybody else. "

Actually, they would. That’s what they do with SCEA. They don’t consider us in the context of the RD applicants. They only look at the SCEA pool and decide. (and that’s why the SCEA is hard to get into; they only accept the exceptional applicants who they would accept in ANY pool.)

I’m not sure whether the admissions office compare SCEA applicants with Questbridge applicants, but I predict they are probably done with most of their decisions for SCEA by now. This may be in part why an interview is more likely to get a person out than in. Dec. 1 is the deadline for interview reports, and I have a hunch they don’t read all of them. They probably only read those of the people whom they have decided to accept, and if it makes them doubt their decision they would reconsider the whole application. This means the interview has very little chance of getting someone accepted.

I would think the contrary. The interviews they’re probably most interested in are the ones for applicants who are on the fence (and not ones they’ve already made pretty final decisions on).

I believe they read all of the application materials for everyone, including interviews. Right? After all, it is a holistic admissions process.

^Probably. I just meant the most focus and attention would go the students they’re very interested in but who are still on the fence.

^True. Still, I find comfort in the fact that they look at the whole application, because some parts of my app are definitely weaker than others.

And you’re right, they probably look at interviews more for people who are “on the fence.”

Yeah, I mean the more data the better in their eyes when they’re stuck between whether someone should go one way or the other.

physicsnut, your application is amazing, especially for someone with sub-20,000 income. Congrats on your acceptance. It is well deserved indeed!

Boola Boola physicsnut!
