Offsetting a Subpar GPA

Hi!

Back in freshman year, I didn’t prioritize school as much as I should have and I’m paying for it now. At this point, I’ll have around a 3.8 GPA (best case) by the time I apply for undergraduate admission.
The average GPA admit for the HYPSM+ at my school is around 3.93, so I’m aware that my GPA is low in comparison to this. This also weighs down my weighted GPA, because I didn’t take any AP or honors courses in freshman year. Even with the max amount of APs/Honors I can take for junior year, I’ll be looking at a 4.2 (best case) weighted. While I can’t go back and change the past, I was wondering what are some ways I can do at this point to offset this. My school only allows a maximum of 7 classes per semester, and I’m set to take 7 for junior and senior year. I was also wondering about community college classes- my school won’t put that on our transcript, but would they help boost my GPA for admission? Are they calculated into the GPA used for admission?

My test scores (SAT, SAT II) are fine, but I’m quite worried about my GPA.

Thank you!

The sooner you recognize that HYPSM is a crapshoot for EVERYONE (unless you’ve won the Nobel Prize at 17, or your father is POTUS), the sooner you can get on with your life.
