Ogg Hall

A friend of mine and I are applying for transfer and if we both get in we were thinking about getting a room together in Ogg. I heard that Ogg has the greatest number of sophmores or upperclassmen then any other dorm, is this true? I see that it is the newest dorm on campus and looks really nice, any other input you have on Ogg would be great to hear about, thanks.

Is Smith Hall better in any respect? I see that it is a block further from campus compared to Ogg, both look really nice.

Hahaha. Good luck getting into Ogg/Smith hall.

If you want to be around other transfer/sophomore students and want a guarantee of having a nicer quality to your housing, you should look at some of the private residence halls. I’ve heard some of them actually have transfer-specific communities.

Tripp in the lakeshore area is all sophomores and above and two houses are exclusively for transfers:

Smith/Ogg are very similar, very nice, and a little more expensive. Technically Tripp would have the highest percentage of upperclassmen (100%), but I would imagine Smith/Ogg would probably be next. The reason for this, though, is that students who are returning to the dorms get to pick where they want to live before anyone else. This makes it harder for newcomers to get into dorms like Smith/Ogg. You can try for a room in one of those dorms, and if you don’t mind paying more they are high quality, but your odds are against you. That being said, I would pick Ogg over Smith as it’s closer to pretty much everything (though Smith does have a small cafeteria in the building whereas Ogg does not, though the main cafeteria isn’t far).
