Alright so I have a question, would it be bad for me to apply to a lot of my schools early action? I am a Florida resident who goes to a private school and our school basically makes anyone who is applying to UF, FSU, and UCF apply ED or EA. So since I'm going to be applying to all of those thats already 3 colleges that are on my EA list. Other schools in Florida that I'm considering are UMiami and Rollins and for safeties Florida International and Nova. Since those two are my safeties I'm sure it would be ok to apply RD to those. I also recently just got back from a trip visiting colleges in the Carolinas and I REALLY liked Elon and College of Charleston and both stressed that you NEED to apply early so I was going to apply EA to those as well.

But this is where the problem comes in, I didnt have a very hot junior year (a couple of C's). So I'm planning on doing really well first semester senior year so would it be better for me to apply RD to UMiami, Rollins, Elon, and CofC or just go ahead and do EA and then if I get deferred then they can see my first semester transcript. I'm worried about the whole deferred thing though because is it true a lot of kids get rejected after they're deferred? And is it bad to apply to 7 schools EA?

Unless a college is SCEA (single choice early action), you can apply to as many EA as you want. Please note, though, that EA usually provides no advantage over applying RD - in other words, colleges generally don't accept a higher percentage EA than they do RD. In your situation, I would suggest applying EA to your safeties, then the others RD when you have better grades to boost your application.

Id recommend applying EA as much as possible because you learn of acceptance sooner plus technically you get two chances at admission.

It seriously sounds like you don't want to go to UF, FSU, and UCF. If you don't want to go, then don't apply. Your school can't make you apply anywhere. Maybe you should just pick one or two of those.

It's not really bad to apply to 7 schools EA. I was thinking of doing this myself. I like to get things out of the way. See what your GPA is after the first quarter of your senior year (if your school does quarters) and then decide.

What are your SAT/ACT scores like as of now? Have you taken them yet? If your scores are good, a 3.3 or so GPA won't be as much of a problem as it would otherwise. Since you want to apply to UMiami, you must be a good student, since they're very selective. From what I can tell from CollegeBoard, UMiami places a lot of weight on SAT scores.

Remember, you can always send grade updates to the colleges after you've sent in your application.

Well I do want to apply to UF, FSU, and UCF and I'll probably end up going to one of those three just because Florida in state is such a good value and I really like UF and UCF. I got an 1170 on the SAT the first time i took it (680 on critical reading and a 490 on math) So I'm definitely retaking in October to boost my math score. My GPA is around a 3.4 if that helps, and yea UMiami is probably a high match to a reach for me, but I figure I should just go for it anyway. And I think I will take your advice about waiting for my first quarter grades to see if I should apply to more schools EA or not. Is it a good idea though to apply to your safeties EA because shouldn't those be the schools your going to get into no matter when you apply?

I might have misread your first post but UF doesn't have EA or ED anymore for that matter.

Yea I know they have one application deadline now which is november 1st...I just got that memo today lol

Sugababi... I would reccommend u apply RD to UM.

Generally (and this has been mentioned in the UM threads several times) EA always accepts more applicants than the RD pool.

However this is why I reccommend RD for u: ur stats are not that high from UM. Their not bad but their not that good either. 1180 is on the lower range of the SAT score range and ur gpa is slightly below the average. However ur stats do come very close to the mid 50% ranges and if u write great essays, get good letters of reference u should have a solid chance of getting in..

The EA applicant pool is filled with ppl that are obviously very well qualified and all have amazing stats. very similar to the ED pool the only thing is they dont wanna commit just yet.
UM does not do rolling admissions and they do compare you to the applicant pool. You applying EA would place u in the lower end of the pool while in RD (while not in the top end) u are still way better off than in the EA pool. Understand what im trying to say?

At UF I wouldnt apply EA as well. I would apply RD. Florida boasts similar if nto hgiehr stats than UM and you applyinh EA there would seriously put u in the lower end of the app pool. Apply RD and u have a better chance...

as for the rest: UCF, Rollins, FSU, USF... you could just go ahead and apply early in those that have rolling admissions (UCF, USF) or apply EA (ROllins, FSU). U are well within the ranges of their stats and shouldnt have a problem.

"At UF I wouldnt apply EA as well. I would apply RD. Florida boasts similar if nto hgiehr stats than UM and you applyinh EA there would seriously put u in the lower end of the app pool. Apply RD and u have a better chance..."

There is no EA at the University of Florida. There is 1 deadline, November 1st as of this year. Even before, they only had ED, not EA

:O
does UF do an applicant pool comparison Vicanity?
if they dont then u might wanna go ahead and apply as early as possible..
if they do, mayby Vicanity can tell u more a less when the most talented applicants apply...

I'm sorry but I don't quite know what you mean by an applicant pool comparison.

I really wouldn't be able to tell you when the more talented applicants apply. I wouldn't be surprised if someone in the UF forum knew though.

Yea I see what your saying acarta about applying RD to UMiami. I dont have a problem with that since UMiami isnt even in my top 3 schools but I haven't visited there yet so we'll see. But my school makes everyone thats applying to UF, FSU, and UCF apply early because my school has a really good rep. with these three and someone who may have a lil lower than average stats at my school could probably get into UF if they applied early. Thanks for all the advice so far guys!
