Oh, dear. Is it too late?

I was just told by my guidance counselor that of the 9 Semifinalists from my school, I was the only one who hadn't been made a Finalist -- because apparently, NMSC never received my SAT scores.

I feel like an absolute idiot, but is there any hope at all that I can still become a Finalist? My guidance counselor said he'll call them and see what he can do, but in the meantime, told me to send my SAT scores with rush delivery.

Please advise me as best you can in this situation; I don't want to waste $39 sending scores if it's futile.

Thanks!

If you can provide documentation that you sent your scores before Dec. 1, I would be surprised if they didn’t make some adjustment on your status. But if they didn’t get your scores because you never sent them, I’m afraid you just learned a hard lesson in paying attention to and following directions.

If you didn’t send them, then there’s nothing at all that you can do except learn from it and move forward. If you DID send them, and you have the email receipt, you can bring it up with NMSC, although it’s so late that I’m not sure you could get your application re-evaluated to be put with the Finalists.

Call NMCorp and find out if you can still have your scores sent.
Main Telephone: (847) 866-5100

BTW…did you ever have them sent?

And, why would it cost so much? Isn’t it like $10?

NMCorp SAT code is 0085

Thanks for the replies. Now that I think about it, I do remember having some internet connection issues when I was ordering the score report – maybe the order never went through. It entirely slipped my mind to double-check, and it never really occurred to me that I should have received a receipt email.

I feel like an idiot. Of all the stupid things I’ve done, this ranks pretty highly…

What a way to throw away $1000. [The scholarship money is all I’m really beating myself up about – individual college/corporate scholarships wouldn’t really benefit me, since the college I’ll be attending doesn’t have any NMF scholarships and I don’t qualify for any corporate ones.]

@mom2collegekids: It’s $39 with the rush delivery.

???

What $1,000?

NMCorp gives some one time $2500 scholarships, but there’s no way to know whether you’d have gotten one?

Anyway…call NMCorp tomorrow.

Oh, apologies, my mistake – then I suppose I threw away my chance at that $2,500.

Again, only about 1 in 6 get the $2500 award, so it is not guaranteed. The only sure thing you have lost is the ability to call yourself a NM finalist, and that in itself is just bragging rights. However, by now they would have decided who is getting the scholarships ($2500), so while it does not hurt to try, chances that they will give it you now may not be high.

login to your collegeboards account --you can search through your own history to see if the scores were in fact sent before due date. If they were, then you can call NMcorp. and ask whether it is possible to fax the proof that they were in fact sent at deadline. It still may be too late, but if it’s due to their own error then you may have a chance.

However, if you log into college board account and find that they never were sent, then let go and move on. Learn from it (and I’m really sorry).

I still think the OP needs to call NMCorp to find out if he can still be named a finalist. I don’t know if he can get this fixed, but I do know that NMCorp can be quite forgiving.

I think it’s odd that he didn’t seem to get the reminder letter in Dec. NMCorp sends a reminder letter to NMSFs who haven’t sent scores to do so soon.

@ mom2collegekids: Perhaps I didn’t get a reminder letter becaue I’m attending an international school in China? I wish they had sent reminder emails. Also, I haven’t personally called the NMCorp, but my guidance counselor has said that he will on my behalf. Thanks for the input!

Ahhh…after I posted, I remembered that you have China in your info, so I did think that might be the problem.

so, hopefully, your GC can get this straightened out.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out. :)
