Oh Em Gee, Chances!!!!!

White male

Go to top private school, I get Bs and some As, with an upward trend (Most As came in Junior year, higher grade average).

School doesnt calculate rank or gpa. This is because grade averages at my school (which is fairly difficult academically) cannot be compared to other public/private schools (or so they say).

Im captain of the track team, commute to school, in a couple of clubs, but not a significant (relative to this site) EC load (All clubs meet at the same time.)

Most kids at my school end up at good colleges, over a third are going to Ivy league schools, very popular non-ivies include: Georgetown, pomona, emory, vanderbilt, williams, amherst, Northwestern, Bowdoin, washu, colgate, etc.

My SAT is 1450/1600, 2140/2400. Ill probably take it again, since I did very well on the practice test I took, but for now this is it.

Im planning on applying ED to Emory, so what are my chances there? Also, I will be applying EA to Michigan and Wisconsin (safety I hope).

If Emory doesnt work out here is my list:

Georgetown
BC
Colgate
Vanderbilt

any other suggestions? Thanks.

Georgetown - high reach
BC - reach (not familiar)
Colgate - match (not familiar)
Vanderbilt - match
emory ED - reasonable chance, make sure you write some great essays.

I wouldn't consider Georgetown a "high reach." I think you have a pretty good shot at all of those schools.

So people, am I gonna get in or what??? Its up to you to decide!

.........bump

no input anyone?

You really don't provide a lot of information to go off of. I would say Georgetown (the only one I can comment on really) is high match/low reach

Well I give you a general sense of my grades (which arent really comparable to most schools anyways). If you mean more info on scores I had a 740 inreading and 710 in math. I also took the math 1 subject test unprepared and got a 710, but Id rather not submit that to colleges, since Im taking 3 (math 2, lit, and physics/ush) in the fall. THere isnt much more information I can provide.

Also, I would appreciate chances for Michigan/Wisconsin as well. Thanks in advance.

Georgetown-Low reach
Vanderbilt-Low reach
Emory-Low reach
BC-Match
Colgate-Match (not as familiar though)

you'll probably get into emory ED. out of g-town and vandy, i think you'll get into at least one of them, and then you should be in for the rest of the schools.

I think you have a good shot at all with BC and Colgate being matches and the rest low reaches

Thanks for the replies, also Im a legacy at Georgetown (several family members went there including my Dad; sibling currently attending). Not sure if that will help my chances, but I thought I shouldmention it.

Also, how are my chances at Michigan and Wisconsin??? I was under the impression that these were easier to get into and would be safer than the other schools Im applying to, but Im startng to worry that admission OOS is more difficult than I originally thought.

Legacy is one of the factors that would definitely increase your chance to get into Georgetown...

Mich: Match/Reach
Wisc: Match/Reach

It's true that OOS is more difficult to get accepted.. but it's actually depend on the schools.

Hm that is a disconcerning post, since I was under the impression that Wisconsin was a safety. I dont see how both Michigan and Wisconsin are matches/reaches, since they are on two distinct levels of selectivity (Michigan clearly being more selective). Any other opinions?

i don't know if my opinion is that valid, but i'd say that vanderbilt/bc/colgate would be a match

georgetown/emory = low reach/high target

ED for emory will most likely depend on your new SAT score, essays (write a good one!) and recs...

based on the prestige of your school according to how you described it..i think that mish and wisc are at worst, low matches if not safeties.

mich is probably harder than wisc to get into though...but i also agree with the OOS thing that Shoiab mentioned up there

Wisconsin is definitely easier to get into outof state. UW's overall acceptance rate is 68% and ONE THIRD of their students are out of state. That is a very high percentage, compared to say 10% at UNC and UVA (michigan's is pretty low too).

Other opinions on all these schools????? Thanks.
