OH GOD I'M SO STUPID, PLEASE PLEASE HELP

Okay, so for one of my college apps that was for a top school, I had to give my favorite quote. At the time, I said something really witty but potentially offensive (Please inbox me for the actual quote, it would be a big help!) I thought I had changed it before I sent my app, though, but I just realized today that I didn't! What should I do? Will they automatically reject me or still consider my app? AH!

When you say, “potentially offensive,” what do you mean? sexist? racist? or just a little racy?

Yeah, you really have to tell us to get feedback. Spill, and we will tell you what we would think if we were admissions committee members.

Read this. It will make you feel better. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/470497-clam-fart-oh-my-god-what-did-i-do.html?highlight=clamfarts

Yeah… but I believe the clamfart story turned out to be untrue. Hilarious, but didn’t really happen. Still wondering what the OP said…

Ok, so i read the quote. Well i can certainly see how it could be construed as inappropriate… However, it is by Terry Pratchett, a well-known and respectable author, so it might not be that bad.

Okay, thanks sloth! At the time that was my thinking, that Pratchett is well-known/respected, and that the joke was classy/witty without being vulgar but ugh, I really should have played it safe :/

ANYONE ELSE? PLEASE HELP :)

It’s done. Of course they will read your file. Then either the first reader will like it or not. It’s out of your hands. For what it’s worth, I don’t think you made a mistake and I don’t think you should have played it safe. You took a risk, but just applying to competitive schools is taking a risk. Go distract yourself with something fun while waiting. (Read Mishel’s study on the marshmallow: the trick is to distract yourself. And this skill will serve you well in life.)
