Oh God, not another CHANCES POST

Hey everybody I've already established that Princeton is my first choice and would appreciate any feedback.

Staff Writer for the school newspaper
Model UN
Varsity soccer & golf

I know that the college is trying to fill out some of the less popular majors and I will most likely pursue Spanish as my "hook." How can I best do that?

good shot-- but princeton is hard for anyone-- especially with your legacy and pretty good test scores id say you have a decent shot...i dont wanna mislead with a % right now tho

Legacy will help . I will take Sat again if you will since Early decision have been illminated. Good Luck. Princeton is a world class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ED has been eliminated? since when?

Since a couple months ago...if you search back threads in the Princeton forum you'll find plenty of things discussing it. All applicants will be reviewed with one application date and one notification date henceforth at Princeton. Harvard did the same.

Yeah I was really bummed when I heard they ended early decision. Now my question is how to express that Princeton is my first choice without it sounding like a load of b.s. Does anyone know what the spanish department is like, and who's the head of it?

isn't there a seperate "chances" thread on CC?

Not that I've seen. If there is, please post the link and I'll move.

It's just the WHAT ARE MY CHANCES? forum...it's not on the sidebar like most forums, but if you click on the College Discussion heading it's under there somewhere.

And for you and everyone else -- everyone is annoyed by chances threads, but everyone has done them. EVERYONE. So it's a rite of passage almost...don't feel guilty about doing them, you know in your head that nobody can really say what your chances are, but it does make you feel better (or knock you back to reality), and everybody on CC does them in some form or fashion during their senior year or earlier. We love you anyways.

I would think Princeton's a reach.

Do good on your SAT II's.

I would think you would need a top 10% ranking.

60% or so. Wild guess.

I don't think you necessarily need to express your undying love for Princeton via ED. The fact that you are a third generation legacy on top of the fact that Princeton is currently ranked #1 by USnews should give Princeton a pretty good idea that you aren't going to get 'stolen' away by some other school.

hmmm i wouldn't be so sure, padfoot. A guy I know whose mom went to princeton is going to stanford next year. Plus, my standardized test scores aren't quite outstanding, although they are solid

when you say third generation legacy, did one of your parents attend? and is he/she an active alumnus?

Yes, my dad is an alumnus, as well as my maternal grandfather, uncles, cousins, aunts, etc. My dad is active in the Princeton Club of St. Louis and was president of the Princeton Club of Northern California until we moved to Missouri. My godfather is an alumnus as well and has given a significant amount of money, so I may ask him for a rec. I suppose that won't help too much though :(

Oh and if it makes any difference, I can remember seeing a thank-you letter to my dad from Princeton last year saying that he donated 10 k, I don't think that's really significant for Princeton though. I suppose the amount my dad makes wouldn't hold much salt unless he donated a large sum to Princeton, which he hasn't. He does make 500 k a year, though

De trop information.

SAT IIs-
US History-800
Math II-710
Biology E-700
APs-
US History-5
Biology-5
English Literature-4

I'm trying to demonstrate my passion for spanish, so I'm pretty sure I should take the Spanish SAT II. Can anybody explain its format, etc to me? Oh and should I retake Math II?

OK I know that SOMEONE, out of all 700+ who have read this, has taken the Spanish SAT II. And I am absolutely positive that most of you have taken MatII. Is a 710 enough? Should I take it again? Come on people...

According to most people 700 is "enough", but keep in mind plenty of applicants have profiles that include an 800 in Math IIC.

ouch man. 710 in math is like 60th percentile. Somewhere around there. And 710 Bio is like 70 something probably. Given your income, adcoms expect a little more out of you. I would advise you to re-take to keep you in the running. Don't worry though. Just about nobody has a good chance at PTON
