I'm taking the January SAT and Feburary Act it's my last chance and I may get a prep school nomination but who knows. I really want to get in; I'm what you call a lerker on these forums I've read almost every post in the last year all of the good advice from Ann and Momoftwins and the funny antics of MisterSinister but I don't post that often. I'll do anything in this world to get in I don't feel too comfortable posting my academic stats there not the best but overall I'm a B C student.

I thought I would post this now because I'm tired of hiding in the darkness I'm an ok student and I ran cross country for two years and I lettered, I was the first person in 15 years of Florida Boy's State history not elected to a position to win the best bill award in the House of Representative last year at Florida Boy's State. Where I also won a full schlorship to FSU and TCC. But that's not for me I WANT WEST POINT~! And I'll do ANYTHING to get there me going to FSU is truly not my dream and deep down I feel like I'm living someone else's dream because I'm sure there is someone out there who wants to go to Florida State wayyyy more than me (don't get me wrong FSU is a great school but we all know that West Point is the best school in the USA; we wouldn't have won WWII without USMA and that's a FACT!)

Anyways, I just thought I'd introduce myself...finally I'm also in the Who's Who Among High School Students yearbook too this year but I didn't submit a picture!

I said I wouldn't list my grades but I will list my HORRIBLE test scores

Composite ACT: 18

SAT: 590 Verbal 430 Math 510 Writting

I know when I take it in january I should get well into the 600's if not 700's for Verb and Writ but my math is horrible and I want to be a Physicist (haha)!
Anything is possible I'll keep working at it and I'll post on here more regularly.

My spelling and grammer was horrible in this post I have to go to work at OfficeMax in eight hours and I still have a ton of AP World History notes to take. Please don't be too critical or judgemental just please wish me the best of luck. It is MY American dream to enter and graduate from USMA and once I do that then whatever else happens is life!

Sincerely,

Keith Jordan Clark (Senior in High School) (African American-North Carolina Cherokee Native American first generation college student) < I have alot of jokes too!

You seem to know where your academic deficiencies are and what you need to do to improve them. What is your class rank?
It may take an extra year, but with hard work and determination you can make your dream a reality.
Congratulations on your scholarships and good luck!

Good for you! You are realistic and attacking your deficiencies. A few ideas:

1) Make sure you let your MALO know how passionate you are and be able to articulate exactly why.
2) Prep like crazy for both of the exams and make sure WP receives the scores quickly. You don’t want to miss the deadline.
3) Make sure you send in the card saying you’ll be interested in USMAPS. It could be a viable option for you.
4) Prep some more for the exams. Do NOT be overconfident about the scores you expect to receive.
5) Can you consider cutting back some of your hours at work? It could allow you a bit more prep/study time.
6) Get an A in your AP WH class. It will show that you can handle higher level academics. Also, if your school weights gpa’s, it will certainly help.
7) Do you run track also? Any chance of being the team captain this year?

You’re right to focus on the exams. If you’ve read aspen’s posts on the subject, he has said that at this stage of the game, it’s the best option that you can control. And you control it by prepping.

If it does not work out then I strongly suggest you take FSU up on that offer. FSU has the best retention for African Americans of all the universities in Florida. You can enter FSU’s ROTC if you want and still enter the military with a degree.

I’m not good at track and their team captain is my best friend whose amazing at it and I know I won’t letter me and Major Mcbride have talked about this. An A in AP World History is going to take work Hopefully a B maybe but heck I’ll go for it! Believe me the MALO’s know (haha)! I know my class rank is HORRIBLE 199/326. I only work weekends Saturday and Sunday for six hours at the most and the only reason I’m working is to pay for my SAT/ACT’s and for my employer to fill out my West Point slip. Yes I do remember Aspen’s post!

How do I mail the USMAPS card in I know it doesn’t need a stamp.

I really want to go to West Point but I’m going to be honest I do need the extra year if not in New Jersey then at Marion hopefully!

Like I said I love Florida State hopefully they beat the Gators today! But this is my AMERICAN DREAM I don’t have another AMERICAN DREAM this is it. I feel like if I can’t get in by the time I’m 23 years old then America has lost it’s values and I’ll move to Algeria and become a Berber. I’m dead serious but I have a strong faith in God and I know what I want will be accomplished.

I respect your intentions to serve your country, but if West Point is something you want it must be because you want to serve your country, not just attend West Point. Keep in mind that you should follow your own dreams not one that might be considered the “American Dream.” Just keep in mind there are worthy alternatives to West Point that lead to commissioning (ie: FSU ROTC).

As for the USMAPS card, just fill it out and stick it in your mail box. Try to focus now on bringing up those test scores.

Good Luck.

PS. Aren’t you the guy who made that “I want to be a plebe” song on youtube?

I was a B student in high school and even I got in eventually after a year of Civil Prep. If you really want it, you can get in. I can tell you first hand that not everybody here is a genius.

PM me if you have any questions about Civil Prep.

I think we all pretty much sing that song too (I know I want to be a plebe too). I’d be great if a few of us Wanna-be-Plebes all taped ourselves singing the song, and then made a mix.
