Oh, jobs

I was just thinking, since I have a job interview soon, what kind of jobs have people here had during high school. Like, I've done some time at a comic book store (sweet for me since I could read for free, sweet for the boss since I'm a girl and it was summer so I'd wear lower shirts and shorts and I think that attracts comic guys), I worked at this community center with kids during most of school (it doesn't pay well at all but there's a lot of college help and volunteering and I love the place since I went there as a kid), done some waitressing (chinese/mexican restaurant w/ great tips, henry's puffy tacos w/ okay tips but better regular pay and the food is amazing). I think I work a bit more than average, I usually always have a job during breaks because I knew I needed to save up for high school prom, graduation, deposits, etc. Now I just need to save up for college supplies like clothes and a computer and the rest I'll blow on fun things over the summer.

I mean, assuming ya'll have had jobs. What kind?

… 0.o…

Umm…I intern at a high-tech company…yeah…no wearing low skirts and seducing for me…

^ agreed O.O

Wow…CC girls are getting very horny, and summer’s just started! :D

I worked at a retail store, as a sort of “semi-salesman” type position.

You just have a dirty mind John. That’s all. :P

^I got the 2nd quote but I don’t understand the first one…

I work as a lifeguard over the summer… 30-40 hours a week.

It was a bit odd. Not my plan…let’s see, I like comics and applied at a comic book store for the summer, the manager was like “mmm, we’re only hiring one person” so my competition was 2 other guys and another girl (who was kinda fat). And I got the job and I know it was entirely because I was a girl with boobs. My hours we’re after 4pm on some weekdays (I was also taking summer school, it worked out perfectly) and saturday and half sunday, the guy said “you increase customers when you wear shorts” which was toward the end of the job. Of course I still like that place but it’s too creepy to work there again. I didn’t actually do any flirting and spent my time reading comics or doing school work, it was fun but guys do hit on you but it’s not much to turn 'em down. Or my friends came by and I took a break and went to go see a movie in the mall. Last summer was fun.

No flirting/stripping done in waitressing…I probably should have caught the blow joke.

I really don’t think it’s possible to write 5 sentences without something being sexual, thank you shakespeare.

I like this thread a lot

@elau: I know huh? I like teasing girls. Its a hobby.

@QwertyKey: Being a waitress is apparently this sexy bdsm thing…don’t ask, but it turns some guys on I heard haha.

damn, I missed the memo on waitressing being a sexy bdsm thing, I need to get another outfit for that interview

^Hahaha I like you, lucky2010. I can see why employers hire you :)

For the past 3 summers, I have worked as a summer camp counselor in the miserable heat, with miserable children, miserable parents, and other miserable employees. But somehow it still turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life, even when I had to do stuff like clean up after this one kid vomited on the bus on the way back from a theme park. I don’t even know how.

I also worked at an ice cream shop for a while. I got to take home lots of ice cream, which was great. But the customers were horrible… now I know why people hate working in food service/retail.

John, stop teasing girls! xP

Okay sorry! I’ll stop just for you ;)

hah, thanks, it’s cool the teasing though

I think if I don’t hear 4 sex jokes from my friends or something within a day, it’s a bad day.

I think, that’ll be the next thread, sex jokes.

How do you all find jobs? I have applied to places that were hiring and none have called me back or anything.

What kind of places? A lot of the time you need connections, like this sports bar I’m applying to used have my brother as a manager and they don’t really advertise they’re hiring. Another place is where my other brothers girlfriend just applied and she vouched that I’d be good. And henrys’ puffy taco was a hard place to get a job because it’s so popular but my sister worked there and my family goes there a lot.

Also, go in and introduce yourself as you leave off the resume or application, I’ve heard of people leaving little sticky notes about how much they love the place on the application, also do it early, usually it’s first come/first to get the job or call back.

I’ve defiantly applied to more jobs than I’ve ever gotten, keep doing it. And try working at YMCA, boys and girl clubs, that don’t pay much but usually hire whoever applies because it gives experience and recommendations. The Good Samaritan was my first job and they’re basically a local community center that only gave me a paycheck of $40 because you could only work so many hours, but they also got me a lot of connections later on and give good recommendations. Wallmart, supermarkets, things like that hire a lot. It’s summer so a lot of places are hiring now whether they advertise it or not, they need help. So just walk into places, next time you’re eating out ask “hey, are you hiring?”, or at the mall and you like a store say “are you hiring?”.

And you know, be funny and likable and all that. First impressions are important.

Haha Thank You :)
