Oh man... I got waitlisted (rejected?)...

I never even though that I wouldn't be accepted to Western Washington U. My grades, SAT & ACT Scores, extracurriculars, etc. were all well over the average of people applying. I thought I had a pretty good essay too. I'm still in shock, because my family and I have always planned on me getting into Western. Evidently admissions standards were a lot more selective this year... I hate to bring it up but I'm thinking it comes down to me being white, living in an affluent town and not needing financial aid.

Here comes the real ****ty part. I live with my dad and he's already made plans to move to Arizona after I graduate (because we assumed I'd go to Western). So I'm going to have to move out and get a full-time job to get an apartment (he'll still pay for community college or whatever). I don't know what to do, I just feel like I tried too hard in high school to end up at a community college (I understand there are smart kids that go to them, but they usually have to for financial reasons. money isn't an issue for my education).

I know that I'm on a wait-list, so I still have a chance, but how often to people actually get accepted, you know? I wasn't ever anxious about hearing from Western because I knew I was going to get in, but now I have to live with two months of this before I find out for sure, and even then I still may be rejected. And I wont be able to get housing or anything like that. Why do they have to do this? They know people have to make plans.

The worst part is knowing that a lot of my friends got in - I'm not trying to be an *******, but their applications couldn't have been better than mine - however they are minorities and/or poor (hmmm), and they're Not even going.

I just don't know about a lot of **** right now... this changes everything and I wish I had the foresight to realize that there was a possibility I wouldn't get in. I totally ****ed up.

because i feel like being a good, kind person... i looked up the waitlist figures for the last coupla years

(year, # waitlisted, # accepting waitlist, # accepted from waitlist)
05-06, 227 , 116 , 3
04-05, 117 , 82 , 38
03-04, 135 , n/a , 135 (?)

good luck w/ ur waitlist

dkaiser, would you mind posting your stats? I have a S who is interested in Western. Have you considered trying for Winter quarter? If you will need an apartment anyway, think about moving to B'ham early and working. Just a thought.

Did you apply early in the admissions cycle?

the fact your friends aren't going will help you.

Again, did you apply early in the admissions cycle?

UW decisions often come roughly in the order that applications are recieved. If something were missing or incomplete or late, the application would be placed on the bottom or end of the stack.

So that is why I am curious, since we were told to get things in very early, rather than near the deadline.

IB

I applied like a month before the deadline.

I sent them the reply letter saying I wanted to be on the waitlist the next day, along with my most recent transcript (which has improved slightly) and my current classes, also a short letter going over why I want to go to the college, and how I well benefit from going there and how they will benefit from me being there, also said I was down for an interview as well. I don't know how many other people are doing this much, so I'm hoping I still have a chance.

alot of people from washington who have good enough stats seem to be getting the shaft.

good luck, hope you get in

Well, since your dad is moving to Arizona, why not apply to Northern Arizona, and Arizona State?

I bet there are a couple of schools in the state of Washington that aren't full yet.

Other option is go to Arizona, and apply for Jan Admission
