Oh man Please reassure me

K- I'm not the kinda student who has done stuff throughout high school thinking "aight this'll look good on my college application"

Please tell me the chances of me getting into Arts an Sciences (btw i chose Anthropology as a major choice if that makes a difference)

I'm a male asian student

SAT I: 720 math 720 verbal 690 writing
SAT II: 800 Math IIC 750 Chemistry (I just took Physics and US History but I don't think i did so hot)
ACT: I think i did pretty well

APs: AB Calc, Chemistry, US History, Lang: all 5's
Taking 5 AP's this year

Rank: 26/260 weighted (lol 10%!!, but GPA is like 95.1 unweighted, there are a lotta smart kids at my school)

I did take an Anthropology course in 11th grade, so will that help me enter as an anthro major?

Here are the EC's I listed on the Common App: (They only let me add 7, so should i add a resume/CV type thing?)

Varsity Track n Field- all four years, captain junior and senior years
Varsity Cross Country- 10th, 11th, and captain senior year
Chorus and Vocal Jazz Ensemble all four years
Community Service at Hospital 10th-12th(only about 100 hours total)
Chinese Youth Club 9th-11th grade
Musical- 10th and 11th grade (one minor lead part)
Tae Kwon Do 8th-12th grade (black belt)

Other stuff i could add:
NHS, Philosophy Club, National Merit Semi-finalist

Work: Mcdonalds 11th grade- present: about 15 hours/ week

I've got a really good recommendation goin for me and a so-so one
My essay is definitely passionate, but i wouldn't rate it super above average

I did summer school for 3 years to take extra courses, so I didn't really have too much time for really good EC's over the summer. Plus Track and Cross Country really took up most of my school year.

I've got no connections

Plz tell me what are my chances

Not many of us have connections… But i think you have a good shot at getting in.

Even though your ECs are a little bit weak, they’re still better than mine. However, I think your test scores may be a little low since you’re a male Asian and I’m not sure how much affirmative action will affect you. Cornell has a pretty low percentage of underrepresented minorities but you never know if they’re going to screw you over just because your application is only mediocre among Asians.

Awww man, maybe I’ll just say I’m hispanic or somethin

friggin profilin’
WHITE MAN HOLDIN US DOWN

I’m sure my ACT’s are good though

Well, there’s 3 problems with lying about your race.

If you stated your race on any of your standardized tests, there’s a pretty good chance that colleges will find out even if you don’t state your race on your application.

If you’re asian like me, most of the time your last name will give away your race completely.

If colleges find out, they may become suspicious about the rest of your application since obviously you’ve shown that you’re capable of lying on such an important document.

You’re better off just putting down Asian and hope for the best. There’s much less risk involved and I don’t think Cornell is too crazy about affirmative action based on their percentage of underrepresented minorities.

I was just jay kay - course i wouldn’t lie bout my race

make your essays hard core

im sure your last name and being a member in the Chinese Youth Club wont give you a way…let alone get automatically rejected for falsify info

jeez i was just kidding - I guess kids who come to this forum for advice have no sense of humor

neways i just got my ACT results today an i got a 35 i think that’ll help with the asian male test score expectations

your chances are really really good if you go ED

I’ve sent two kids (and self) to Cornell and I don’t think your EC’s are weak - two varsity sports and singing and a paying job sound pretty good to me…

Natl Merit and NHS aren’t EC’s but awards or honors so there should be space for them…

good uck.

looooooooking good!

hmm, ED deadline is November 1st? I was gonna do regular decision but I’ll tell my teachers to get my recommendations in quicker - thanks guys

please remember ED is binding…if financial aid is a concern, apply RD.
