Oh man

Waitlisted at WashU and Chicago. Rejected at Northwestern. Waiting on 4 Ivies which I probably won't be getting into. I like my safety school, but it was my 6th choice. Oh man. Can I get can "amen"?

AMEN brother.

Well, chances are you will probably get into 1 of your waitlists. Call them up and say that you want to go there.

I was rejected by Stanford in December and since then I have really had some time to reflect on what I want from my college experience and what I’ve learned is that there are many colleges that you would be happy at even if it wasn’t your first choice college. This guy who graduated from my school a couple years ago was rejected by his dream school and ended up at his safety. He will now tell you that it was the best thing that ever happened to him and that his “safety” gave him opportunities and were more flexible than his dream school. And don’t count yourself out yet. April 1st still hasn’t come; you may be surprised! Good luck and AMEN. lol

That tired cliched making lemonade outta blah, blah, blah

My safety school is Syracuse and from what I have heard and read I really do like it and I think that I would have a great experience there filled with great academic opportunities, I would just prefer another option or two.

Ok, if you’re tired of the lemonade sermon, try this one:

“I cried because I had no shoes until I saw the man who had no feet.”

^Very well said.

You only had reaches, high targets, and a safety? Ouch.

I’m sorry, though. I hope everything works out.

I also applied to Bucknell, Boston College, and USC, which are pretty much matches. But I’d prefer Syracuse over those I think.

@ the OP: I’m sorry to hear that. But try to look on the bright side – with the Ivies, given that your academic stats are within their range, you can never be too sure of a rejection until you actually receive the letter! If they think you have what they want, you still have a decent chance. :)

33 ACT superscored, 4.33 W GPA, i’ve worked and am prez of NHS. I don’t know it’s close.

Thank you everyone for the advice and support :)

If you really want to go to WashU or Chicago, write to them and tell them how much you want to go, and anything new that you have done since graduation, and how much you could contribute to the campus.

And there’s a pretty good chance that many top private schools like WashU will go to their waitlists this year because of their high prices and the bad economy. Listen to levirm and write them a letter a) updating about possible awards, etc and b) reinforcing your desire to attend. Then cross your fingers and hope for the best. =)

Don’t let the initial setbacks get you down! Especially WUStL – they waitlist EVERYONE. Their loss, I say. Wait until you have all your decisions in hand to lose hope! And even then, I promise you’ll learn to be happy at even a safety school. The college experience is about so much more than prestige – while we’re sharing cliches, it’s all what you make of it!

Do all those school superscore the ACT?

Well, if you end up at Syracuse (or BC), I’m sure you’ll be happy.

Just curious…why do you prefer Syracuse over BC?

@mom2collegekids: I’m not religious whatsoever, and am worried that there might be too much of a religious atmosphere. I am going to visit it though in a couple of weeks and find out for myself, I got my acceptance to BC yesterday!

And again, thank you everyone for the advice. You are all wonderful.

TRUE THAT
