Oh my god. Forgot CSS

At the risk of sounding like a complete idiot… I forgot my CSS. I applied to three early action schools. In fact, I find out in a few days from bc (which requires it) about admissions. The deadline WAS A MONTH AGO. I’m so dumb. I already got into Tulane which also requires it.

I don’t know what happened. I guess I can’t blame anyone but myself for being such an idiot. The deadline was an entire month ago!!
But I’m not the only one from my school… my twin brother (who applied to the same schools) didn’t either. And plenty of other kids didn’t even know what the CSS was, only the fafsa. We’re all at a loss. But still, I’m an idiot.

Since there’s no chance of it getting in on time what should I do?? I’m sure I’m the only one in this position right now. I see posts from people a few days beyond the deadline… but a month, just days before a decision? Nope.

The thing is I haven’t received information from Tulane about how much need based aid in getting. I know I’m getting 27000 per year in merit based, so maybe they take longer to deliberate need based aid? I’m not sure. Please help me.

I feel like calling the schools will make me seem like an idiot and, as much as people tell me it won’t, will definitely affect my chances just days before I find out from bc. Please help.

If you don’t file the CSS profile you will not receive any institutional aid you will only receive federal aid if you are pell eligible ) and $5500 federal loan

If you need financial aid to make your situation work then you need to complete the paperwork ASAP

Go to the school website look up financial aid. Make sure you read the financial aid policy and submit all information requested

Uh…you haven’t received info from Tulane about how much need based aid you’re getting BECAUSE you didn’t submit CSS. These schools USE CSS to determine your aid.

NO, they don’t take longer to determine your need based aid because of merit. They will take longer to give you an aid pkg because you didn’t send in the info they need on CSS.

BTW…what is your FAFSA EFC?

A requirement is required. They will not be "nice’ and award you institutional aid without the required documents.

I just submitted it to my early action schools and all my regular decision schools. Yes, I understand they can’t make a decision on my financial aid without it- but that’s not the question. My question is will I be able to receive any institutional financial aid from my early action schools with it being so late?

Some schools are lenient, some aren’t. We can’t say.

What was your FAFSA EFC???

My efc is 015899

All you can do is get them in today and then call each financial aid office to let them know it’s there and you need an estimate to decide.

Do the Profile NOW. Contact the schools and let them know.

The good news for you, these are EA applications. While there is a priority deadline for EA students, you don’t have to commit to the schools until May.

You just won’t get an earlier financial aid package.

But do the form, and call the schools…and ask them.

<<<,

Ok…and Tulane has given you a $27k merit award. You’ll also get $5500 in a loan, and maybe $2000 in work study.

$16k EFC
$27k merit
$5.5k loan
$2k possible work study

$3k student contribution from summer earnings

$53.5k

If your CSS doesn’t indicate any other money sources, and if Tulane meets need, you might get about a $15k grant from them. (Guessing that COA is around $68k

Did you say that yesterday you learned that you needed to submit CSS and your family was able to complete it last night? If so, wow. I thought it would take a family longer than that to complete.

Thanks for the help! And yes, panic can really make you move quickly. I Called my schools and they mentioned that the deadlines aren’t absolute, they’re just so you can be guaranteed aid.

It took me many days to gather all of the info necessary for the CSS. EXTREMELY thorough look at a family’s ability to pay.

I spent about 4 hours doing it (with breaks and internet surfing) and I have 3 kids (so did 3). It’s not so bad if you know where things are. The first time is certainly nerve-wracking though!!! After that I knew what to gather for the next year and it was all in one place.

Good luck OP! We found Tulane to be pretty generous.

@wicked99 If you applied EA to Tulane, it looks like the deadline is 12/15.

I am filling it out for my dd on Monday!
