Oh my gosh, my **** essay is soooo lon....

The common application asks for an essay of 500 words with a 6,000 character limit, but my essay is nearly 1,000 words totaling about 5,500 characters. It's a page and a half single spaced.

my question is, will my super long essay hurt my chances of admission?

Also, will anyone be willing to critique it?

I'll critique it, if you want me to. PM it to me. Also, it depends on how interesting your essay is, if it's boring, then the length will definitely be noticed.

i'm going with a long essay. if it's good enough, long doesn't hurt. plus for most common app schools you only have one proper essay to make an impact. the box allows 6000 characters.

I'm in the same situation. But the way I see it, they give you a character limit that is way over the word limit. They must sorta expect you to go over.

Ill read it if you pm it to me

ill give you my two cents if you pm me

the character limit includes spaces. dunno if that changes ur mind.
