Oh no! Affirmative action!

I think Staind must be joking or willfully ignoring facts. Either way, there’s probably no point in trying to convince him (her?) otherwise.

wait hold up now. Wasn’t there a Supreme court case that made it so that only considering race for admissions to a school was illegal. I’m not pro AA or anti AA but I was just putting it out there. Saying that when schools do AA race may be a factor but it can not be the only factor, they also consiter one’s economic status and financial background. That under better circumstances that student might of achieved better grades if given better resources. I think some of us should consider this before spitting out whatever feelings they have for AA. But I am also aware of its flaws but I wanted to but the educational part of it. Hope that makes sense.

You know who really got screwed? native americans. Chris Rock (funniest man of all time) has a video on youtube that mentions it.

barring that, i have no problem with AA if it’s based purely on socioeconomic status (AND area), and race has nothing to do with it. I have lots of dirt poor relatives in Alabama and Mississippi who wouldn’t get aid because they’re white.

That’s a completely pointless stipulation. No school was ever admitting people just because they were a certain race. But I believe what you’re referring to is that schools that use point systems can’t give varying amounts of points depending on race.

This. Is. False.

//This. Is. False.//

it IS false, the way I wrote it. it doesn’t mean that there isn’t a grain of truth.

the supreme court did not strike down affirmative action. it struck down the University of Michigan’s policy of weighing race as a greater factor in admissions than SAT scores, and the court left open the possibility of using affirmative action in a less overwhelming manner.

I personally think AA should be socio-economic based as well. A well-off African American person doesn’t need the advantages of AA, while there are plenty of poor white and asian students who need it desperately.

Um, yes it does. If I said I’d been to Mars, there wouldn’t be a grain of truth in it either. Simple statements purporting to be fact are either true or false.
