oh no gpa went down to 3.15!!

I took calculus this summer and just saw that I got a B. This lowers my gpa to a 3.15. I know that the minimum TAG is 3.2. So when I apply for a TAG is there a chance that I might get approved as long as I raise it to a 3.2? If not, then is there no point applying for a TAG? I really really want to get in to UCD but if I don't get a TAG then theres a chance that I probably won't get in. However, I do know that I can at least raise my GPA to a 3.4 by the end of next spring. Advice please?

Depends on the UC. Some will calculate your GPA for TAG after Fall and evaluate you then. Others will only count what is on the application. You should look up each UC’s policy in TAG.
Your GPA at the end of next Spring does not matter for your admission decision. No UC uses Spring to evaluate applicants, as they will make their decisions before your grades post.

I was trying to tag to ucd. And they sometimes look at TAG application after fall? I
Thought results come out November. I did check their requirements and it says min 3.2 gpa. Really sad cause I’m so close.
And yes you’re right they don’t look at spring gpa…unless you fail a class. However I know that I can raise my grade this fall and I really hope you’re right about them looking at your gpa after fall. Id have to talk to UCD counselor. However, seeing as its summer break I hope I can get some answers here :)

Thanks for the reply!

not hurt to apply, its free.

I don’t think UCD looks at your grades after Fall for TAG. I believe that UCI and UCSB do though. Of course, all UCs look at your Fall grades for regular admission.

Ahh ok thank you. I checked my gpa for the end of fall and if I get all As I’d have a 3.38 gpa. Not the best but I’m hoping it’ll give me a chance at Davis. Hopefully
Since ucsc ucm and I think uci requires a 3.0 gpa TAG, do you think it’s smarter to apply to those for a TAG? I really want Davis. However I’m all ears for a more practical approach.

Davis will not include Fall for TAG. They will not grant you TAG:

“The following minimum requirements must be completed by the end of summer 2012:
• 30 UC–transferable semester (45 quarter) units
• 3.20-3.30 GPA (dependent on major)”

UCI and UCSB also require a 3.2 unfortunately. However, they do include Fall for TAG. If you bring your GPA up to a 3.2 by Fall, they will accept you for TAG, provided you meet all other requirements. You have no choice but to pick another school than Davis for TAG. Apply to Davis for regualr admission, and there’s a really good chance you will be accepted.

Ok thanks! Oh and lastly, You think there’s still a good chance even if I’m not approved for tag? I was under the impression that TAG students are first priority. I just don’t want to get my hopes up for nothing. :(

^ Do good in fall. Thats the turning point, they want to see you improve.

If you meet the requirements for TAG, the UC approves you 100%. If you do not meet any of the requirements, there is a 0% chance you will be granted TAG. Meaning there is no chance that Davis will approve you for TAG, and therefore there is no point in applying for TAG for Davis. TAG is different than regular admission. Unfortunately, you either meet the requirements or you don’t.

On the other hand, if you apply for TAG to Irvine or UCSB and you bring your GPA up to a 3.2 (and meet all other requirements) you will be approved. Therefore, you should pick one of those schools to TAG to, even if they’re not your first choice because there is at least a chance that you will be approved. In other words, make sure you apply for TAG to one of these schools (or UCSC/UCR if you prefer) because it’s a free shot.

You definitely have great a chance through regular admission at all schools. Most students accepted to any UC did not have TAG. And if you can bring your GPA to a 3.2+, you chances of being accepted to Davis are much higher than being denied.

Ok thank you so much for all your answers. I will apply for a TAG for a different school and just apply to Davis as a regular admission. I really hope I get in!!! Thanks again!

Btw if you have a link that says the school will check your TAG gpa after fall, may I have it? If not, Or if you have to look for it, then you don’t have to. I’m
On my phone at the moment and am unable to search for it. But I can always do it later if you don’t have the link at hand.

No problem. Make sure that you look up the TAG requirements for each school that you’re looking at though because they all have different requirements beyond the minimum 3.2 GPA. And no matter what happens with your TAG situation, bring your GPA up as much as possible this Fall, I’m sure if you can get it above a 3.2, Davis will probably accept you through regular admission, provided everything else on your application is also in order.

Sure. Here are the links:

Ahhh thanks. You have no idea how much I’ve been pacing since I saw how much that B lowered my gpa. This teaches me never to take a 5 unit course for the summer haha. But you made me feel so much better and less stressed.

Lol, no problem. Look through those links carefully and make sure you meet all of the requirements before you pick a school to TAG to. Keep your hopes up. I’m sure you’ll be fine. If you have any other questions, just post them. Good luck. :)

The link for UCI says you need a 3.2 by the end of summer, not fall…

Speaking of 3.1 GPA’s…can you get into UCI, UCD, or UCR with that GPA (regular decision) for non-impacted programs?

You’re right Shannon13. I didn’t see that. I guess UCI is not an option either then. But fortunately for the OP, UCSB still is.

@CalDud

You can definitely get into UCR with that GPA. The other will be much tougher obviously, but you still have a shot depending on your major.
