My friend applied to Harvard and the interviewer told her that she hates our school. Are the people in my school screwed or what? I thought it was kind of strange that Harvard would say that but they were blunt about it. Anyway, I don't want to discourage anyone from applying to Harvard but s--t happens.

Well, is that interview an alumni or someone on-campus. If she is just an alumni interviewer, her saying that she hates your school doesn’t really mean much (and very likely Harvard does not share her sentiment) - if you really think the interview was biased you can report it or just not have an interview. So if that is the case, no one at your school need worry about it.

But if she is directly affiliated with Harvard, and part of the admissions office, then yes, your situation is certainly not a good one…

How can they SAY stuff lik that?
What ever happened to diversity and being tolerant?? Are these not the virtues Harvard wants to foster?

I’m in a similar boat. Stanford hates my school. Don’t apply to Harvard, go to Yale instead!!

nooo GO TO PRINCETON!!! hehe.

bigcheese, haha stanford HATES my school too!!!

All of you should just go to community college. More Ivy for me >:-)

Thanks for replying.
The interview was an alumni.
@ BigCheese, Stanford loves my school but I feel bad for you. I can’t believe the two schools that I want to apply to (Columbia and Harvard) hate my school. I don’t think that anyone from my school has been accepted to Harvard. Oh well… I guess we will just have to make the best of our precious four years in HS. Yeah, I’ll apply to Yale. (hehe)
@ Ravenbelle Yeah, Harvard is really nice and diverse but I wouldn’t blame the interviewer for hating my school. Everyone at my school does the same thing, wins the same crappy awards, wears the same clothes. There is no diversity.

what makes harvard/stanford hate your school? i am in MA and i think harvard loves our school a lot.

youre more than where you went to school. if you have an amazing application it won’t matter. granted, i’m not saying there isn’t bias but it shouldn’t prove to be the deciding factor so don’t worry about it.

As far as I know, Harvard doesn’t hate any school. The alum was probably joking or was simply uninformed.

Yale hates our local high school. HPSM all accept top grads from our school but not Y. Never has, never will. No one knows why.
