Oh no's Chem 1A is full ("Currently not open" question)

According to the schedule, all the Chem 1A classes are either CURRENTLY FULL or CURRENTLY NOT OPEN. And my Phase 1 appointment is in a few days. Which sux lolz because starting on Chemistry early if doing premed is quite important.

Anyway I was wondering what does "Not Open" mean? Are they cancelled? Or will they only get opened up in Phase 2?

If the latter, how likely am I to manage to sign on in Phase 2?

Can’t you waitlist for one of the full sections? This also waitlists you for the main lecture.

I understand from what I have read on CC that often the department will open additional discussions or labs, either the ones listed as currently not open or entirely new ones, based on having waitlisted students but still having room in the main lecture.

These could be opened before the final phase I times, could be opened in phase II, or during the adjustment period. No way of knowing in advance.

A rule of thumb I read was that a waitlist position of 10% or less of the overall class size is likely to clear once people shuffle around in Phase II, adjustment and in the first weeks of the semester.

Another recommendation is to keep trying to get cleared from the waitlist and if that fails, to attend the class even if waitlisted, waiting for a position to clear - if someone drops in week 3, you get in officially and have been attending all along to remain up to speed.
