I took the SAT for the first time last fall and didn't do too hot, for reasons out of my control. I am scheduled to take it this Oct. 4 and was wondering what score do I NEED to be considered for admittance at Emory? I'm also applying EDI (It is my first choice and my level of enthusiasm is/has been through the roof!) and heard that the chances of acceptance are pretty high, for EDI.

I know an admissions officer very well at Emory and he is currently advising me through the college application process (I am also applying to Emory, however not early). He told me that anything above a 1200 can be competitive (I'd shoot for at least a 1250), as long as you realllllly shine through with everything else (Emory loves diversity also, which is shown through extra curricular activities). Make sure your GPA is high (try for nothing lower than a 3.8 UW), you have plenty of leadership roles, and take a SAT II or two and do well (try for over 700), and then the SAT will not weigh as much on you. Also, take the ACT. ED will help you though. My friend advised me that, if I were to apply early, to do ED Round II because not as many people do it because it's not as common, therefore more are taken from that pool. Just something to consider.

thanks but a 1250/ 2400? if that were true then i'm great, but i thought you needed to break 2000, at least (my math scores killed me). i read that 60% of ED1 are accepted ... what is the percentage for ED2. I'm starting to feel extremely discouraged about applying, I am abs. in love with Emory (hence ED1), unfortunately, i realized this a little too late in my academic career. What can I do to distinguish myself senior year???

I think they mean 1250/1600.

Yes, out of 1600. Why don't you call the admissions office and ask for the statistical report of how many were accepted through ED II? Then you can get a better idea.

Do better on your tests, excel in your clubs, community service (maybe volunteer in a political campaign?), and just stay active. and don't let your grades slip at all. Also, don't wait until the deadline to send in your application; the earlier the better.
