Oh Usc..

id love to go to USC but its quite expensive.. is it worth it? how much do students shell out semesterly?.. are they generous when it comes to scholarships?.. are students ridiculously indebted by the expensive tuition and fees?..

PS i love the fact that USC's team is named after some condom brand.. hehe

Education is an investment. A lot of money now for USC will quite possibly and very very very likely yield more money in your profession later. You gain a respected education, a superior alumni association for jobs, friends for life, and pride and happiness in knowing you went to a great school.

It is quite a stretch for my family to come up with this money so I am taking student loans and helping pay myself. It is something that I trust will pay off in the future. The strange thing I have noticed is that students whose parents went to USC don't seem to believe the tuition is that astronomical. That must be because they are either rich now, or know that the experience is worth all of it. I just found that interesting.

do you go to USC? if so, did you start there as a freshman or as a transfer?

Generally, they are generous when it comes to scholarships and financial aid, although some people on the board will tell you that they were unhappy with the amount of aid they got. If you show a need, they will meet it.

I don't think we're named after the condom brand. Wikipedia says we got the name in 1912 from sportswriter Owen Bird, who wrote that we fought like Trojans against Stanford in a track and field meet.

protokurios: oh i see.. not that im broke or whatever but USC's damn expensive.. nevertheless, i still want to transfer there.. they've got everything im looking for in a university: good established academic reputation, awesome location, active social life and beautiful people.. i definetely look forward to studying there.. and um, whether the trojans were named after condoms or not.. i could care less, they still have a bad ass football team.. period.

On side note: only Trojan condoms are sold in the pharmacy ;)
But I'm very glad Bird decided to call us the Trojans cuz otherwise we might still be the fighting methodists (or something like that)

Yeah, we definitely were not named after the condoms (more like yhey were named after US!) We're named after Trojan warriors.

And as far as the price goes, I think SirWatson got it right. If it is possible for you to pay for it, than it definitely is worth it. The academics, the degree you'll get, the social life, the location, the people, everything makes it worth it.

On the other hand, there is also a chance that you will get a great fin aid package. You say that you can afford it, so it may not be that large, but it'll still help obviously. For me, I was actually going to turn down SC because of the cost. My dad's motto always was, "it's your job to get into my college, and it's my job to pay for it," but I felt horrible making him pay for all of it, so I wasn't going to go. Then my fin aid package came. It was amazing. And now, here I am!

USChicka, that is my parents' motto too. And knix, I am a spring admit.
