Football (12)

Thats all I got. So what are my chances of getting in?

Thanks for all the help.

Ben.

You'll get rejected--you aren't involved with enough activities and are not committed (4 years involvement) and your GPA/class rank is too low.

I would say give it a try, you have nothing to lose. You never know.

Thats what I thought, I have nothing to lose except for that application fee.....

Any other opinions and comments?

Im in kind of the same boat as you, trying to decide whether or not to apply to Penn Ed...the biggest thing that you would lose by applying early is just that, applying early. If its by far your number one choice then dont pay any attention to me, but if your not 100% maybe you should look at some other business programs that may be easier to get into (cornell or Michigan (even tho you cant get in as a freshman)) and then consider applying there ed as youd have a much better chance (this is what im looking to at right now)

I'm sorry if I sounded like a dick--definitely apply. I applied regular decision this year with a 1270 sat 1. If it's what you really want, you have nothing to lose by applying.

Everyone on this board is really critical. I think you have a great chance and the main thing you have to do is show your passion. Don't just list your business EC's because your applying to Wharton but let it be known you're passionate about what you do even if they aren't business.

ditto^^

going to a high school ranked 37th doesn't give you that much of an edge. my school is ranked number 26th and ppl get rejected from penn but yea be passionate and list everything...my transcript was hardcore focused on science but i go into wharton...well m&t...but anyway, i think u have a good chance.

whats DECA?

marketing club

if you can get awesome rec's and write inspiring essay, i guess you have chance...

what entitles to an awsome rec.?

yeah, I think I can have some pretty nice ECs. I am well-liked generally.

As for the essays, I will just get to that as soon as possible.

But do Penn allow Supplemental recs? if they do, how many can I send?

I will not sugar coat this.

you have a low sat score, low gpa and a low class rank.

those three variables mean that I would bet a good deal of money that you will be rejected...unless you have legacy or youre a minority.

being outside of the top 10% makes getting into penn as a whole quite difficult. i think those stats are public and go into the us news rankings, which is why so many top tier schools are accepting less and less from the pool outside the top 10%.

According to Penn's public stats, they only admitted 4% of applicants ranked top 20-40%. So unless you have extraordinary factors working for you, I don't think its realitic.

These threads are generally useless. Numbers only go so far, and most people on these boards (HS students, or first- or second-year college students) don't really know how they got in.

Definitely apply.

Yeah it really doesn't matter what the people here think in the end -- your chances for acceptance go up quite a bit by applying as opposed to, well, not applying at all. Give it a shot, you may be pleasantly surprised.

i agree that you should apply, but i think you should also be realistic and make sure to cover your bases and apply to some safety and match schools as well...i don't think anyone really expects you to read one of their posts and decide not to send in your application....i think most people are just letting you know that it is going to be tough. if what aurelius said is true (and i believe it is), i think we can safely assume that one way to increase chances is to be in the top 10% of your class. while thinkjose1 and legendofmax are right in what they are saying, facts are still facts and 4% is never good odds (just think if you went to a doctors office and he said your chance of survival was 4%...i for one wouldn't be too happy), but with all that said....DON'T GIVE UP...4% means some people beat the odds, which is what you should REACH for. Best of Luck!

Yeah, thanks for the help guys. And I am Asian and both of my parents went to VCU so no help there.

I definitely have a few safetys and lesser reaches.

I will also be applying to
Duke
UNC-CH
Chicago
Michgan
NYU-Stern
USC

Thats about all the schools that I will apply to. I am thinking applying to Yale since my best friend goes there, but I dont know yet.

:)
