EC's:
Violin - 7 years.
Ecology Club - 2 years.
Creative Writing Club - 2 years.
Summer volunteer work - 100 hrs.
Possible summer job.

Rec's are likely to be fair to good, essays likely to be good.

volunteer more. 100 hours is not enough. your numbers are fine, but EC is lacking. on your violin part, are you part of any special orchestra or concertmaster or leadership position? I play the violin too, but I had lots tied to it such as concertmaster, school play pit orchestra, symphonic strings and stuff like that. If you have those other extra stuff, you can use it to boost your EC.

I'm not good enough to be concertmaster or any of those things. I am also in the Envirothon team at our school, if that counts for anything, and plan to do some environmental related volunteer work at the local government office over the summer. I'm also thinking of founding a club at school.

How many hours of volunteer work should I aim for? I'm not one to volunteer much, because I'm not keen on doing it just to get into college, but...

I say 200 hour+ is respectable. You can prolly get 100 hours of volunteered just by fulfilling school requirements. 200 hours would be over the school need. I personally had around 300 hours.
