Ohio LACs

Oberlin was ranked 20 this year, though the rankings are hardly the whole picture for any school. It has excellent humanities and science programs. The kids for whom it is a "fit" seem to love it there. Their acceptance rate this year was around 30%; of those, about 30% matriculated.

Wooster's admissions stats going down does not necessarily mean that its academic standards are slipping, though, right?

I've also read that the science classes are quite rigorous at Ohio Wesleyan Univ., so much so that more than a few students take organic chemistry and the like during the summer at other schools.

psychgirl – you may find these figures below helpful in measuring selectivity.

Oberlin: Avg. SAT: 1329, Percent in Top Tenth of HS Class: 59%

Wooster: Avg. SAT: 1182, Percent in Top Tenth of HS Class: Could not find on the school's website

pschygirl - please ignore the data I initially posted about Wooster. The link below provides more up-to-date information.

<a href="http://www.wooster.edu/about/facts.php%5B/url%5D">http://www.wooster.edu/about/facts.php</a></p>

your stats are a little out of date for Oberlin; the 2007 common data study shows that 68% of applicants were in the upper 10%, 92% in the upper 25%; the SAT range (from 25th to 75th percentiles: 650-750; 610-710; 630-730); they had 7014 applicants and accepted 2193 -- they have a freshman class of about 750 students.
The statistics include conservatory applicants who on the whole have lower GPA and SATs, so for the College it might in practice be more competitive than these figures suggest.

^Manenyu: Where is the data for conservatory students?

look on the institutional research site for Oberlin; there is a list of SAT scores on there for the college and conservatory -- up to 2006.

I've looked pretty good there and don't see where it's broken out. If you have a link I'd appreciate it.

EDIT - Oh, I just found it.

The middle 50% SAT range and the admission rates for Denison, OWU and Wooster are as follows: Denison (1170-1370, 39% admission rate); Ohio Wesleyan University (1080-1320, 63% admit rate), College of Wooster (1100-1320, 80% admit rate).

This information is from the UCAN (University and College Accountability Network) and is self-reported by the participating schools. The SAT middle 50% data is for members of last year's freshman class incidentally. It is not from the entire applicant pool or admitted student pool.
