Ohio northern

Comments on Ohio northern please! We’re visiting next week!

D has a friend who is a BFA MT at Ohio Northern. I do know she did not enjoy her first semester, but as the year went on she ended up loving the school and her program. Think it just took her a bit to get adjusted and get into the groove. They did have a rough year as one of their small BFA class passed away which was super hard on everyone.

My D is going into her junior year and loves the MT program. Very supportive environment all around. The cold winter took some adjusting to, but she’s very happy at ONU!

Hi @theaterwork - nice little college in a small town. And I do mean small. We visited a couple times and liked it, but be prepared to be away from larger cities. Also supposed to be cold and windy in winter, but you are in northern Ohio, so…

Ask about double majors, they are one of the schools that support that. Also remember something about them implementing a program to reduce or control tuition costs (university wide). Don’t remember details and haven’t looked at them in a while, but was trying to make the school more affordable.

Well we visited Ohio northern and the people were super nice. Pretty campus. VERY rural. Like very rural lol. There is really nothing in the town of Ada. My D thought this was a deal breaker to be honest. Seems like a nice program. Very flex w/ other majors and minors. Nice theatre facilities. The nearest town is about 25-30 min. away so that would be your option for shopping etc. plus freshman can have cars. Nice merit aid there too plus talent so becomes quite affordable. I’m bummed sorta cause I think it would be ok but my D says it’s a no…

Yes, like I said, small town! But there are plenty of schools to choose from and I know from your other posts that you are looking at many of them. Best to find the schools she likes as audition season will be rough enough, let alone the actual schooling!

Are you in Ohio or the MW? Check out Wright State… They just did a multi-million dollar facilities upgrade (amazing!) and it is an EXCELLENT program. Our son is staring his soph year and loves it there.

Having nothing around a campus was a TOTAL deal-breaker for my son. Sometimes you just need to get off-campus to clear your head and to eat someplace other than a dining hall. Needless to say, he’s at a conservatory in the middle of a large city and loves it.
