Ohio State as a transfer???

I am very confused about what is required to get into Ohio State as a transfer student (out of state). I am hearing many different answers. Some are saying it is easier to get in as a transfer than right out of high school. Someone told me they got in with a 2.7 GPA and another said they got rejected with a 3.4.

My GPA at my community college is a 3.15. According to *****.com, Ohio State accepts 85% of transfers, which is more promising but I am still a little nervous.. any help would be wonderful!

You have to remember with state colleges that they have special agreements with the state CCs, so they will have higher acceptance rates. Out of state, you most likely don’t have any sort of agreement with your CC. But yeah, not sure if 3.15 is good enough (not really familiar enough with OSU), but that could help explain their high acceptance rate.

About a year ago the requirement for guaranteed transfer was 45 quarter / 30 semester credits and a 3.0. This year they removed that guaranteed admission but it can’t be much better (because 85% still are accepted).

i am afraid the 3.1 won’t be good enough, esp. since i am out of state. i guess i should just hope for the best =/

the 85% thing is weird…unless it’s a bunch of people with a 3.5+ GPA that are applying.

It is definitely easier to get in as a transfer then as a freshman, the average gpa and ACT scores of incoming freshman is around 3.4-3.5 and 27-28 ACT. You will be on the bubble with a 3.1 but there is definitely a decent chance you will still get in if you have a good essay and a EC’s. And 85% is an old statistic from when they had guaranteed transfers, but it is still very high.

Yea I was surprised. most schools say it is harder to get in as a transfer.

Ohio State University (OSU) works closely with Columbus State Community College, thus the high acceptance rate. I have a few friends who recently transfered to OSU from Ohio University and did such with GPAs of around 3.5.

I’d suggest trying to boost your GPA up a bit before applying, being from out of state will work against you. OSU is a good school is a great city (Columbus), I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

update… according to [The Ohio State University - 2008](http://profiles.asee.org/profiles/4102/screen/17?school_name=The+Ohio+State+University) .transfers need a 2.0/4.0… but i am sure that is the minimun requirement. even though a 3.1 is low, i am still going to give it a shot…i am just nervous

They do not anymore I think.

I think it is easier to transfer in rather than go straight from high school… at least that’s what i hear. Usually it’s the opposite i thought.

Kmlsu: The reason it’s easier as a transfer is because a high number of students come from regional campuses. A common route is to complete a year or two at OSU-Newark, OSU-Mansfield etc, and finish the 4-year in Columbus.

oh i see… guess i might be out of luck then :frowning:
i don’t live in Ohio, i will give it a shot though. maybe my 3.15 will be good enough with the right recommendations ect. if not i will try again next semester!

Oh, I’m not saying that OOS won’t have a shot at all. With over a 3.0 you actually probably stand a good chance. I’m just saying that the high acceptance rate is a bit of a false representation because of the guaranteed transfer agreement with the satellite campuses.

Oh, I see what you mean now.

if anyone is an outofstate person that tried to transfer to OSU, let me know! i’d love to know what you think my chances are with a 3.1. i’ve been hearing good stuff but i’d love to know from someone with personal experience! much thanks!

I’m thinking of transferring into ohio state also, I hear its pretty competitive out of state though. Great school, and one of the best college “feel” environments/towns in the country.

There isn’t any chance you could raise that to a 3.3-3.4, you’d prob be much more competitive then.

nope, only because i am trying to transfer in the spring. if i waited it out til fall, then yea i’d have around a 3.5, since i am retaking two classes that i got a C in. so if i do not get in, i will just apply again. i called admissions. they couldn’t tell me if i was a shoe-in or not. they said the minimun requirement for transfers is a 2.0. they said it is easier to transfer in rather than come right from high school, which was weird to me, yet reassuring. they said they have accepted people with as low as a 2.0 or a 2.5 in the past but it all just depends. i have talked to an out of stater who was accepted with a 2.9, and one that was rejected with a 3.35. so unfortunately it seems as if my question won’t be answered until i apply. :frowning: wish i had more info… OSU would be my dream come true.

Yeah, you mind as well do that then. I’m applying for fall, hopefully you’ll have luck the first time around. I got into OSU out of highschool with a 2.4, newark campus that is LOL!

You should have a decent shot, I would visit Columbus also, and talk with admissions and some professors personally if you get a chance such a big school. It’s really a city in its self.

Yes i have been there… i loved columbus. unfortunately they told me they don’t concider letters of recommendation or SATs for transfers. that was upsetting. looks like i have a 50/50 shot. hopefully it will be slightly less competitive since i am applying for spring. i figure more people apply for fall. we shall seee :)

Hi! I’m also looking to transfer from an out of state community college and this was really helpful! Did you get in? Because in itself would help me out
