Is anybody thinking about going to Ohio State for their fashion program in fall '17? It’s very highly ranked (9th overall on one site and 12th on another as of 2016) and continues to improve every year, rising higher and higher. Ohio State’s my dream school but I’m still considering FIT because they’re #1 here in the states. Does anybody know any concrete information on how OSU’s program is?
All other things being equal especially financial costs FIT would be best in my opinion as it is one of the best if not the best Fashion school in the US and it is located in NYC, the main fashion center in the country that can help you get internships and ultimately a job in your field. With that said outside of NYC and San Francisco there are some that argue that Columbus, OH is the third leading fashion city in the country due to all of the fashion retailers that are located there or not far from there including L Brands (Victoria Secret/Pink), DSW, Abercrombie and their associated brands, Lane Bryant, Macy’s offices in Cincinnati and other retail brands like Bath and Bodyworks. This offers many internship and job opportunities, my D works at one of the retail firms with a girl that graduated from the OSU fashion program.
@Collegeorelse I really appreciate you taking the time to give me that feedback, much-needed input. It’s tough: I’m a born-and-raised Buckeyes fan, dreamt of going there for as long as I can remember. I actually already have a degree, though, so I’ll only need two years to complete a degree at Ohio State – whereas FIT requires you to attend for a minimum of three years because you have to earn their associates first and then apply to their bachelor’s program. Because of this, the costs of attendance are equal (it’s actually $2,000 more for FIT because of that extra year of school), but I know logically that FIT is basically considered like the Ivy League fashion school here and well-respected globally as well. NYC is crazy expensive, too. Food, clothes, living essentials: they’re all so much more in that city and that certainly adds to the cost of the school and impacts your comfortability in said environment. But you’re right – there’s no place better to kick-start our career and land internships. I’m so torn and confused at what I’ll choose to do.
