Ohio State Honors College

I was accepted to Ohio State in the first batch of acceptances before Thanksgiving, but I still haven’t heard anything regarding the honors college or scholarships. Some of my friends with a little better stats got into the honors college in late December. My stats are: 30 on the ACT, 4.47 GPA, and top 3% of my class. I thought I had a really good chance of getting into the honors college and really want to go to Ohio State. Should I be worried about not being accepted yet? When will I hear back?

@Js02468 you should call the Honors office and express your continued interest. My son got accepted in first batch like you did last year with 31 ACT and his gpa was equivalent to top 10% and he did not get offered Honors until after a lot heard back. He received offer in early February, about one week after he called to express continued interest. I suggest you do that. Good luck!

Have there been any recent acceptances to either Honors or Scholars?

My S who was accepted just after the New Year, received his honors notification within the past week.

Still haven’t heard a decision about my honors application. Similar stats to you, OP. I called and said I was still interested in the program but they basically just told me I was still in review. anybody else?

3.4 uw, 2160 SAT literally just applied… sent a few supplements… Know I can’t hear back for a while but still!

Even if you don’t get into honors you can always just join after a semester if you keep a 3.5

I emailed them and they said they they are sending out notifications until mid-April.

Still waiting to hear about Honors. Anyone else out there still waiting?

My son is still waiting as well. Given that he got the Provost + National buckeye scholarships, I’m hoping it’s a good sign he will get into the Honors program. But he suspense is killing me!

Have you guys checked your BuckeyeMail account? I received the email for Honors on January 6th on my BuckeyeMail email and not my gmail account (which I put on the CommonApp). I only found this out when I called the office last week.

@ForceIndia98 Thanks for the info! I’ll have my S check when he gets home. W mistakenly assumed everything would go to his regular email account.

I can’t believe I was not accepted into the honors program. They accepted me into their scholars program

I can’t believe I was not accepted into the honors program. They instead accepted me into their far less impressive scholars program (my second choice). Wth? I got a 34 on my ACT, I have a 4.15 GPA, I have extremely impressive extracurriculars. This is just insulting.

@jsmith98, go rant somewhere else. Your entitlement is ugly, and I’m insulted by your statement, maybe you should decline the offer, do us all a favor, if you feel so superior to the program.

@kidfromchicago I’m sorry what I meant was that the honors program offers “w/ honors research distinction”. As a physics major, research is all that matters to me. If I don’t have golden research my application for graduate school will be “far less impressive”. I didn’t mean to offend anyone. I understand that the honors and scholars programs are of the same prestige in >90% majors but for Physics, you need the most research you can get. Obviously, which one is the better program depends on one’s major and under no circumstance is scholars not impressive.

@Js02468 They said notices will keep rolling out until late april.

My son just got word that he was accepted to scholars and not honors. We are very disappointed. So far, from everything I read, scholars program is not at all something that I would consider attractive from the academic perspective. He wants to major in Economics and currently has no interest in a business school. The business community, however, sounds like the only one remotely close to his interests. He is probably going to decline the scholars invitation. Any advice?

@Modeler9 If he keeps a 3.5 GPA then he can transfer into honors after a semester. Honors isn’t a big deal in all honesty unless you’re in engineering. Scholars is nice because it’s a cohort of people with similar interests and it helps to make friends and connections early on. It’s not binding so he can quit scholars and join honors after a semester.

@kdiddy34 : Why do you think the honors program is a big deal only in Engineering?
