@GAcollegemom6 There is already a groupme for Mount…my D said you need to go on Ohio State roommate search Facebook page and look around and then ask to be added to th MLS group me
@bucks724 Is your D a Mountie this year? How does she feel about Bowen…is it far away from everything?
Thanks @pop424! I gave her this info.
I was accepted to the innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship program (second choice). I’m a CSE major, so will this complement my major? Also I am required to live in Norton house, is that good?
@pop424 - she LOVES Bowen. But yes, it is far. It’s the farthest dorm on the northeast side of campus. And she’s a Pre-Nursing major. She has learned to take the bus in bad weather since it’s a mile to walk. She says food is not as easy to come by, but it’s okay. Bowen is beautiful and the Mounties really stick together, and the Post-Mounts are GREAT!
edit
There is a traditions nearby, but it gets busy as it is the only one on North campus. But across the street, there are several dining options, as well as the Marketplace on campus, and you can always grab food before heading back to the dorm. There is an AWESOME kitchen space in the building if you like to cook as well. So distance isn’t a huge issue for them - especially while taking GECs since they’re a bit spread apart anyway!
Can anyone comment on the new Houston Hall? This is where STEM Scholars will live. Looks beautiful but far from the center of campus. Any thoughts?
Houston is just down Lane from Bowen (see my post above about info regarding distance, etc.). The good thing is that it’s close to Engineering/Science buildings. Also a beautiful new building.
anyone know if OSU computer science is a pre-CS? what’s the criteria such as GPA to declare computer science after 1 year?
Are we crazy to consider declining Scholars? My son is a Business major and a DirectAdmit to Fisher. He didn’t get into Business Scholars – instead got into PSL. Now he is thinking he would like to do the Global Business Learning Community and I can’t deny that this does seem more in line with his major.
Any suggestions on how to best find a roommate in your scholars program?
My D found the Ohio state class of 2021 Facebook page and was able to connect with her group there. The kids have group me set up for several of the scholars groups, and you can find the person running it on the FB group.
@drjdillon We are struggling with the same decision of Scholars for my daughter. She also is a direct admit to Fisher and Business Scholars was her first choice…she was put into Mount. Although she loves the idea of the Scholars program and what it has to offer, she isn’t quite sure that this community is a good fit for her. We’re OOS so it seemed nice to have this instant group to be a part of, but wondering if it doesn’t feel right that it might not be worth it?.
Struggling here too…my daughter is a Health Sciences major and really wanted HS Scholars. She was offered Mount Scholars and is very torn at this point. She is wondering if it is a good fit for her as well.
@restAllgreen congrats to your son! The STEM scholars program is much more complementary to the CSE major and instead of distracting will enhance his experience. I have a number of friends in the program and they all really like it, plus they all know each other and can collaborate on group projects and assignments with peer help.
@pop424 Mount for all intents and purposes is the closest thing to a cult OSU has. Now that isn’t a bad thing at all but it just means the kids who succeed in mount really love it and want to be there. If that isn’t her I would recommend against it.
Could you tell me more about Mount? My son also got accepted and from what I read on Ohio State Parents Page on Facebook, it looks awesome. It wasn’t his first choice though --that was Business, still he thinks he will accept. And the dorm (Bowen) the Mounties live in is new and looks great.
Anyone know how the Dunn Sports & Wellness Scholars program is as a Fisher Direct going to study Accounting?
@israelifun Thanks for the info, very helpful.
I was offered admission into the Scholars program in early March, and when I went to choose my preferred programs, I was not given every choice as some were full at that point. I have been offered the ACES (Advocates for Communities and Education Scholars) program. While I’m sure this Scholars subgroup is fantastic, it isn’t one of the ones I had hoped for (STEM, Business, Health Sciences). Is it possible to transfer between Scholars programs in OSU?
