Does anyone know when Ohio State will start giving out scholarships? Or could estimate what all I would qualify for? That would be much appreciated!

And does anyone know how generous Ohio State is with financial aid?

I filled out my FAFSA, and it said I have an EFC of 0.

OSU doesn’t “meet need” for it’s students, expecially for OOS students so you’ll probably be gapped. If your family can’t afford to pay much, then the school may not be affordable.

I did the Net Price Calculator and according to that my test scores are high enough for 21000 in merit. And I realize that Ohio State doesn’t match, most colleges don’t. I wasn’t asking that, I was asking if they were generous. Some school gives more then others and I was wondering how they are. Just because my mom cannot afford to pay anything towards my education doesn’t mean I should eliminate my dream school because of money. Money has always been something that holds me back and I refuse to let it hold me back for college. Thank you for suggesting the net price calculator.

For merit scholarships, OSU has begun to send out the awards. We are OOS and DS received the National Buckeye scholarship. He was invited to apply for the Eminence which is their full tuition scholarship but it requires a 3.4 GPA to maintain the scholarship (very high especially for an engineering major). Don’t know how they are on financial aid as we do not expect any financial aid.

When did you receive the merit scholarships? And what were grades and test scores if you don’t mind me asking. I really want to go to OSU and hope I get something

It was awhile back (if you look at the OSU thread, I believe I posted there when it arrived). He probably will not attend as the scholarship does not bring the cost down to our in-state flagship plus he already has several full tuition scholarships from other schools.

??

can you copy/paste your results? I used the NPC with your stats and a 0 EFC and I’m not getting that scholarship. I’m getting about $15k in merit and the rest of “free money” is federal grants.

the remaining costs are about $20k per year. That’s a lot for a 0 EFC student. How would you pay that?

No I was wondering when they would send stuff out, mostly. And I didn’t mean for the rude to be toward you mostly. It was for Erin’s dad. I’m sorry to come across as hostile, but I get enough negative feedback at my home and from my mother and don’t like having to deal with it anywhere else. Your statement about my parents came off as rude to me, simply because my mom is the only parent I have and she isn’t even one at that. I’ve raised my four sisters my entire life while she continued to be a teenager. My father has nothing to do with me and is mostly in and out of jail. I know you did not know any of this, but that statement hit a soft spot because having my “parents” pay, or even help pay, is not an option for me. All I have is financial and scholarships

Mom’s reply was not rude. You asked for help, and she is trying to give it to you. She is trying to make sure that you have accurate information so that you can make an informed decision about whether or not you and your parents can afford this school. Why ask for help if you don’t really want it? The best help you can get in life is honest feedback–it may not be what you want to hear, but it’s what you NEED to hear. This decision is too important to make it based upon flawed data. :)

Cali I just explained myself and apologized. I know what feedback I need and what do you mean by flawed data? I corrected myself after realizing my mistake. I’ve been making decisions for not only myself but my entire family since I was ten I think I know to be accurate with the data

Didn’t see your post before I posted. Not trying to make your situation worse. We are all trying to help. With your family situation, you will need to make sure that you are at a college where you will not need to worry about where your tuition money is coming from. Sorry you are having to go through all of this–it must be tough. But it sounds like you are a tough cookie–so if anyone can do it, you can. Good luck!

I’m sorry that you’ve had little support from either parent and that you’ve had to act as “parent” to your younger siblings. Your mom may be worried that you’re going to leave the home and then who is going to help with the other kids. Is that possible?

*Your statement about my parents came off as rude to me, *

What I wrote in previous posts was not “about your parents”. It was really about the fact that you mentioned that you have a 0 EFC. Usually, those with a 0 EFC cannot pay much. You’re going to have a significant gap in funding. And at least one of those scholarships mentioned in the NPC is competitive so it’s unknown whether it will be awarded.

Are you a URM? If so, that may help with getting that competitive scholarship since it’s to help with OSU’s desire for a diverse campus.

Thank you, and I know my EFC is low, but I really don’t have a say in that. I figure ill have to take out some loans but I prefer scholarships and grants. Sorry for the mix up, and what is a URM? (I’m still trying to learn stuff about the college process)
