Ohio State Transfer

I am currently a freshmen at Ohio University and received a 3.23 GPA following my first semester of 15 credit hours while studying a major in business. In high school I received a 3.4 GPA and got a 27 on my ACT. I applied to transfer to OSU for the fall semester a couple weeks ago and my application is still under "evaluation". What do you think my chances of getting admitted are?

I’m a sophomore at Ohio State and I work in the admissions office, so I have a pretty good idea of how stuff works around here.

Basically, transferring to OSU is a lot easier than getting in as a first year. As you may or may not know, most students who are rejected from OSU Columbus are given the option of attending one of the branches for a year before transferring to main campus. This is done for a couple of reasons.

The university as a whole is able to boost it’s acceptance standards, which is important for rankings. For example, the middle 50% average ACT score is between a 26 and a 30. Because OSU doesn’t take high school GPA into consideration, only class rank, these scores are important.

By allowing rejects to go to branches and then transfer, the university gets more money from tuition. Ohio State is great, but boy oh boy does it love to squeeze every dollar possible out of students.

I would say you have a semi-decent shot. 27 is on the low end of things, and Fisher College of Business is one of the top undergraduate and graduate business schools in the country, so that may make it a bit harder to get accepted. But again, Ohio State loves money and your admission statistics won’t influence first year stats.

Also, if you are accepted, only your credits will transfer, not your GPA, so you basically get to start anew!

Best of luck, and if you have anymore questions feel free to PM me.
