Hi all -
Can I have some opinions or comparisons or both on these 2 universities for Journalism, in particular, Broadcast Journalism. My child got into both schools.

I would like to know everything about the schools - dorms, social life, friendliness, academics, etc. So basically would love to hear from anyone with experience or who knows someone currently matriculating or someone who currently attends.

why didnt he go for syracuse for broadcast journo.

mizzou is amazing journo but not that great at much else. OSU has good football thats all i know about them.

my counselor gave me a ranking of top undergrad journo programs from Gourman Report

its in order:
1mizzou
northwestern
syracuse
u of minnesota
u of illinois
UNC
u wisconsin
OSU
MSU
USC
NYU
indiana u
u washington
u kansas
15u texas

outta those i applied to syracuse, UTaustin (im instate), USC, UNC

Actually I made a mistake, I meant Ohio University (Scripps School of Journalism) not OSU.

We did apply to Syracuse - haven't heard anything from them yet. I know they have a good reputation for BJ. We are waiting to hear from Univ of IL, Syracuse, Northwestern, Univ of NC - Chapel Hill, and Emerson.

Accepted to OU (Scripps School of J) & Mizzou so far.

It would probably be better to go to a place like Northwestern, UNC, Syracuse, Illinois because if your son decides he doesnt like journo he can do something else that is just as good. The places that you guys are waiting on are much more academically well rounded than Mizzou.

Hanna, what is your bkgrd? Are you a J student? Since I made a mistake in the title of this thread, I started a new one. Please see my new thread and comment if you will.

I'm not into Gourman, or most fad-ranking services, actually, but I don't have much objection to the one cited by YoungeSt.Toronto... Except, I'd rank MSU over OSU... Most more academic-based rankings, esp those from the journalism industry, itself, don't rank OSU so high, but do put MSU way up there... Also, I wouldn't put Illinois over MSU, either.

Quincy - If you read the earlier posts, you will read that I made a mistake in the title of this thread. I meant to write Ohio Univ NOT Ohio State Univ

Quincy - np - didn't think you hijacked the thread. Just wanted to set the record straight for everyone that wanted to respond. I wanted to make sure they'd respond to the right topic.
