I'm a Senior at one of the most competitive high schools in my Suburban Chicago Area.

I've applied to OSU and I'm wondering what my chances are.

My Bad:
I have only a 3.1 Weighted gpa.
I've failed 1 class (French IV)
I've gotten 3 D's total in Highschool. 5ish Cs
*Other than A BAD junior year, I've had a consistent 3.6 gpa (until junior year)

My Good:
I have taken very hard classes. 5 AP Classes in total. Plenty others honors or advanced. Gotten mostly A's and B's in them.
I have 5's on the AP US History, AP European History, and AP Psychology exams.
I'm currently taking Ap Macro Economics, AP Micro Economics, Ap Comparative Gov, Ap comparative Politics, and Ap Stats. My GPA for this semester is going to be a 4.2 come January.
I've received two 30's on the ACT. My Superscore is a 32
I have a TON of work experience. 25 hours a week
I have solid extra curriculars
Explained how Junior year (out side of school stufF) brought me down.

What are my chances at OSU?

Also, I heard back from Indiana, they asked me for my first marking period grades so they can reevaluate. Do you think I'll get it? (Also, does this mean my 'official semester grades' or my 'unofficial quarter grades')

I honestly think that OSU is going to be a long shot. They are turning down people with 4.00+ GPA’s and 28 ACT’s. The F and D’s are not good. Good luck but make sure you have other options as well. :)

As far as Indiana, I believe that they are asking for unnoficial quarter grades.

Ouch, that’s rough.

Can anyone also recomend schools I should Apply to? Anywhere but California and the deep south is fine.

You could always go to OSU at Mansfield for one year and then apply to transfer to OSU Columbus. Alot of people are doing that now since OSU has become so much more difficult to get in to.

And I know you said no deep south, but have you ever considered The University of Alabama? The school is AMAZING, campus is gorgeous, great sports, the people there are so nice, and of course the school spirit and alumni network is fantastic as well. And everyone knows Roll Tide! You may want to check it out. :)

That GPA absolutely kills you. You probably couldn’t have picked a worse year to do bad in. If you had kept up that 3.6 GPA, with that 30 ACT you probably would have been able to make it into OSU. But still, it is doubtful you’ll be able to make it in now if you just bombed your junior year. I think IU will probably take you at the end of the day, if you perform really well this semester.

Another school you can consider is maybe UIC near your home. Michigan State could potentially be an option if you can keep up the 4.2 this semester. Besides, regarding OSU, why would you want to go there? You know you’re just going to get crushed by my Wolverines every year from now on. You sure you want 4 years of misery like that? :P

The main thing that is bringing you down (As you know) is your GPA; ECs& work seems quite good! Plus, you took some hard courses

As some others have said, it is a long shot but if you have a really good explanation for why you tanked in junior year - maybe?

Best of luck!

This is not good. OSU was my number 1

Bummer.
