I am debating back and forth between OSU's Honors program and CWRU for Chemical Engineering.
OSU offered $3,000 scholarship and CWRU offered $22,000. So 18750 tuition and room/board at OSU and 19420 tuition at case (I would live at home and take the RTA to school). My question is which one would you choose? I'm open to any opinions, but preferably those who are planning to attend/attending either school.

I would choose OSU because 1° great honors program 2° you’d get to have the “college experience” of living on your own, on a college campus, getting involved, etc, which all help grow and learn in ways living at home can’t compare to.

Academically, Ohio State has a long tradition of excellence in chemistry and engineering depts. The new state-of-the-art $126 million CBEC facility for Chemical Engineering is 3 months ahead of its schedule, set for debut this fall 2014. Plus, Columbus student lifestyle and surrounding resources top Cleveland any day. CBEC: <a href=“CBEC Facilities | Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering”>http://cbe.osu.edu/department/cbec

Best of Luck & Go Bucks!! :)

Case Western Reserve is a better school. Ohio State is a bigger name among those who don’t know about CWR. If you want a better engineering education, go there. If you want everyone to recognize where you went to school, go to Ohio State. (companies hiring for engineers will DEFINITELY know who CWR is.

S1 is not going to either due to financing as we are in Texas. We heavily researched both as he is also pursuing ChemE.

Good luck!

I don’t really have anything useful to say, but I felt like chiming in because I’m going to live with my relatives and commute to Case Western next year. I want to be a math major, but Case is probably better in engineering than it is in math.
For me the cost of Case Western is about the same as the cost of Ohio State, maybe a little less. Part of the reason I’m choosing Case Western over Ohio State is that I’ve already been living with my relatives and taking college classes full-time this year, so I know that I like being a commuter student and I won’t have as much to adjust to.
But I also like it because I’m really shy and I’d prefer to go to a smaller/quieter college (I was looking at LACs for a long time), and I don’t really want to live in a dorm or eat in dining halls for four years. (Then again, I’d rather live in a dorm than live with my parents.) My commute isn’t very long, so I definitely still plan to be involved on campus and have some semblance of a dorm experience when (if?) I study abroad.

I agree with all of the above. College is about personal growth as much as its about an education. You will get more personal growth going to OSU and getting out of your parent’s house. However, even the kids who love OSU all say the size is overwhelming. Case is so underrated by high school students. Its excellent, and it does a fantastic job with job placement. There is a lot to love at that school. But if the choice is to live at home, I would still pick OSU and take the honors housing.
