Ohio State vs. Penn State

So I'm not going to do a Pros and Cons for this one I'm just going to let you guys tell me which one you think is better. Note I'm going in for business at both schools.

They are both excellent schools.

The only negatives I will say about Penn State involve the trustees and the governing of the university from a policy level - for the students it is fine.

The only negatives I will say about Ohio State involve either their own management or else the inexplicable way they say “THE Ohio State University”, like this is a matter of great significance over which there might be some confusion. The first is again not a problem for the students, but the second is a bit of a turn off.

So I give it to PSU on the tie-breaker.

And how about Engineering at both schools ?
I got into both :D

eh…honestly I think they’re about equal…OSU is marginally more difficult to get into, average SAT score is like 60 points higher or something. If you’re stuck between the two, I would visit both and see which you like being on campus more, you’ll get the smaller college town feel at PSU, and the large city feel at OSU.

Yes, OSU is more selective if that’s what you want (2012). This year the number of application increased by 25% at OSU whereas at Penn State the number of applications decreased by 9%. OSU got even more selective.

Even though OSU is located in a big city, it has a separate campus just like PSU. The dorm rooms for freshman at OSU are very small, pretty similar to east halls at Penn State.

Penn State: 8556 acres with 38k undergrads
Ohio State: 3469 acres with 43k undergrads

Both are extremely big. For Business and engineering, they are on the same level. Which one do you like urban or rural ? That’s the one of the better ways to decide…

Urban thanks!

If you like urban then OSU is the logical choice - PSU is in a smallish town in the middle of farm country. In State College you are a good 2 hours from Pittsburgh, 3 from Philly, and 4 from Baltimore or NYC. In Columbus you are in Columbus a city a good 6-7x the size of State College.
