Ohio State vs UW Madison Business

Hi All!

I’m trying to make my final college decision between UW Madison and Ohio State. I am a direct admit into the business program at Madison, and I would be a direct admit and honors student at Ohio State. Any advice?

Thanks!

Are you OOS for both schools? Is cost an issue? Wisconsin recently announced tuition increases of $3,000, $3,000, $2,000 and $2,000 for OOS students for the next 4 years.

Tuition is not an issue for me at either school.

US News & World Report 2015 edition ranks Wisconsin #47 versus OSU #54 in the National University ranking. And it ranks Wisconsin #13 in the top public university ranking versus OSU at #18. While historically U of Wisconsin has been regarded as a stronger school overall academically, Ohio State has gotten more stringent admissions - wise the past 10 years and has spent a lot of money improving the infrastructure of the University and is clearly a school on the rise, with average ACT scores only behind Northwestern, Michigan & Wisconsin and possibly Maryland in the Big Ten conference. Business - wise US News ranks Wisconsin at #15 versus #20 for OSU. And Businessweek ranks OSU’s Fisher at #32 versus Wisconsin at #33. Wall Street Journal Job Recruiter top picks list Wisconsin #2 in Accounting versus OSU at #10. In sum, I think u should base your decision on which school you feel more comfortable at. Both schools have strong business schools, great universities and Big 10 athletics. It’s a win-win whichever school you choose.

Direct admit to business at Wisconsin is quite an achievement, and for lack of a better word, prestigious. They would both be strong programs for undergrad business. I would give the edge to Wisconsin, not just for the program, but for the Madison experience itself. Consider secondary programs of study, unless you plan to major in business and never take anything else – UW has stronger academic programs across the board, though certain disciplines at tOSU are also very good. Visit both if you can, and go for fit. Congratulations.
