Ohio University Residence Hall selection

Can someone please describe any of the residence halls at Ohio University. My son will be an out of state freshman in fall of 2013. Have any halls recently been redone? Are any preferable for OOS freshman. He will be in the Scripps College of Communication. I think we may have an opportunity to request certain buildings or halls and that is why I am asking. Thank you

My daughter is starting next fall. After being there for a semester, any suggestions or tips?

Hey Bobcat Moms! DS is an out-of-state sophomore. He lived in Ryors on West Green which was fine -old, nothing fancy but next to the dining hall so we were happy - thought a better chance he would eat! Lives in Bromley now but that’s not for freshmen. He didn’t complain and wasn’t too picky so I guess we thought it all worked out. He found his roommate through an online roommate matching tool. He arrived knowing no one and, we felt, had a nice group of friends within a week or so. 2in2MOM asks re tips - - I would say, it is a big adjustment. We encouraged a light academic schedule for first semester and checked in with him later to ask if he needed to drop any class. We/he are happy with OU. I’d be happy to chat more.

Great to hear that your son likes it at OU being out of state - That is a concern of mine since so many kids are from Ohio - Any suggestions for finding a roommate? Is random the way to go or are there better options?

@twixiesmom,have you had your S request the Communications Learning Community? There is a two-click application for this on the learning communities page. I had my D do so as it puts students fro mtaht school together, offers a faculty mentor and advising/enrollment into the first few intro classes required for all of the Comm students.

Look under Communities for the link to the Communication community. It is in James Hall. Your S will need his Ohio ID and password to sign up.

Ack! Anyone know how to edit posts, post-upgrade? I left out some info and made some lovely typos.

I meant to add the the learning communities each have an assigned dorm, which you can check out on the Housing pages before applying to live in the learning community. The Communications LC is in James Hall on West Green – close to the new Baker Center, the stadium and within an easy walk to the fitness center and the College Green. These things are important to my D.
