Ohio University vs University of Cincinnati?

I decided on UC a while back but since then have been hearing awful things about the campus since it is basically in the middle of the ghetto. OU is a notorious party school though, and I don't want to be out in the middle of nowhere. Academic/reputation-wise, which is the better school? I am thinking of either journalism or business, exactly how hard is it to get into OU's school of journalism?
I am an AP student but slacked off my first two years in high school so my GPA is a laughable 3.1 (GPAs are not updated at my school until the end of the first semester this year, so this what I am stuck with). My ACT is a 29, but that probably won't help me. Please give me your opinions!

Not sure why you think UC is in the ghetto.
I’d go with UC over OU, but ymmv= take your questions to each school’s forum and compare the answers you get.

if you are seriously considering going to the school you need to research it more: OU Scripps School of Journalism is considered one of the best journalism schools in the country. im not sure how hard it is to get in but i know you have to write at least 1 extra essay to apply there. like you said, OU is a huge party school so i guess it depends whether or not you’d feel comfortable in that environment. & UC is in a bad neighborhood but i know multiple people who go there & they’ve never had a problem with safety: u might wanna visit & talk to current students to ask them how safe they feel on campus.

I think the neighborhood around UC is fine, it has it’s spots I might not walk down solo drunk at 4AM, but security on the beautiful campus is very good.

Of course Athens is a cool college town with lots of outdoors opportunities nearby.

It will come down to what you want to do. UC is a founder of the co-op school concept and is very strong in certain areas. Its music conservatory attracts kids from all over the country, indeed world.

I am less familiar with OU’s academic offerings but i know many intelligent kids who chose it and love it.

I think you may need to dig a little deeper and also VISIT - and visit the neighborhoods, not only the campuses, to see how you feel. Maybe sit in on a class, spend the night?
