Oil Industry Offers

I was wondering if anybody knows what a normal timeline is for internship offers from oil companies? Either service firms or operators…

From what I know…

ExxonMobil will be early November. (You should know by know that you made it through the “referral/reject” process.)
Chevron should be early November.
Halliburton late October.
Schlumberger is still interviewing…

Who did you interview with? Previous industry experience?

Varies but you should hear back by Thanksgiving, assuming you got an interview. If you have other offers available make sure you tell the interviewer so they can expedite the process.

I have no industry experience yet - you? I’m trying pretty hard to get into drilling specifically [at least that’s what I’m thinking for a full time thing]. As for the internship, I’m really just trying to get some relevent experience working in the field so I can tell them with a straight face that I can handle it on a full-time basis… I’d rather not post who I interviewed with specifically - but if you start to hear back from the companies that you listed above I’d love to know.

I have two terms (eight months total) of industry experience.

(If you have time) For your first internship, take whatever you can get. Once you have the initial oil and gas experience on your resume, everyone will be willing to give you a shot. For your internship, I’d go for one of the majors, if possible.

I’m a EE, so I’m at a bit of a disadvantage when compared to ChemEs and MEs since there is less need… But I guess the upside is that very few EEs (from my school at least) will even look at a heavy industry job. Kinda surprises me because the compensation and structure of the work schedule (~40 hour workweek) in this industry really can’t be beat. Maybe not as “cool” as Google or Microsoft, but I’d pick an oil job any day.
