Well......... I guess I don't understand your issue. I'm not a student at Wake (at least not until next year if I'm lucky) but I'm sure there are Asian student groups on campus. No, Wake is not Cal Berekley or Harvard minority-wise. But why is that really a problem? I'm sure you're more than capable of making "non-asian" friends at a place like Wake. From what I've experienced (limited, but more than some), the students there are warm, friendly, and very open. Unless you have some major character flaw, I don't think you should be worried about meeting new people at school. It's a lot like high school- get involved, and you'll form a ton of strong friendships.
On a random sidenote, if it helps at all, I've got 1/4 japanese blood in me- not Korean, but :)

Don't worry about social stuff now, worry about your next few mail deliveries ;)

I don't know the numbers or exactly who is considered "asian", but there seems to be a fair number on campus. There was an Asian lounge in my son's dorm last year and two of his four suite mates were Chinese--both born in China. Several of his friends from classes were Asian--though don't know their exact nationalities.

Theres definetely an asian population at Wake. Two very good friends of mine are asian and one of them is an officer in ASIA (Asian Student Interest Association). My RA last year was asian...

I'm not Asian but I attend some of the events on Campus. My favorite event is the Moon Festival... hundreds of people create favorite homemade dishes and lots of people from the community and campus come ---

Nice one WhistlePig, glad it's not directed at me this time....
but I totally agree-
FluffyFluff, the festivals/activites sound really interesting. Is that sort of event common on campus year round?

The population of Asian students at Wake is probably 5 times as high as it is in NC in general. It's not going to be as big as Duke or a West Coast school, but your ethnicity definitely won't make you unique.

TAce77 --- I'd say in terms of year long festivals ... each cultural student group sponsors one or two MAJOR events that students hear about and then they sponsor little ones that you really only hear about if you know people/ are looking for info. I'm in student government and can tell you that we are currently working on creating more student programs that will embrace 'cultural diversity'.
However, the school always brings in interesting people that have impacted the world in some way. There is also a more artistic program (mostly involving travelling musicians/ but also sometimes politicians etc) called the Secrest Series : WFU | Secrest Artists Series
Anybody who whines about a lack of diversity on campus is not looking around in the right places. I agree with sirfish that Wake is not as obviously 'diverse' as say Duke or Harvard, but its here and its GROWING. I'd say 60% of kids fit the wake stereotype and 40% don't... thats pretty good.

hey man, im 3/4 japanese and though im not korean, hopefully if both of us make it in i'll be your friend. but again like all others have said, i'm sure your a great guy and you shouldn't worry about making friends. just be who you are and do be a fake and im sure your going to make tons of friends.
