ok, enough, is it because of my EFC??

So i applied to the UW on november 30th, and my status is still in "we have RECEIVED all materials required to review your application..." and has been since Jan. 3rd. I've been checking everyday praying for the status change and for my unofficial transcript to load.

But nothing in over 2 months.

here are my stats:

I have a 3.77 uw GPA (at time of applying. it is now a 3.802 after getting a 4.0 first sem senior year) , from a top HS in WA state.
SAT: 610 CR, 670 M, 580 W, --1860 cum.
good ECs I feel: 10 years 4-H, 10 years drum lessons/performing, piano lessons etc...

..........

so my questions is:
--my parents are divorced and i only live with my mom, we did the FAFSA and our EFC came out to be pretty damn low, like 2500ish low. So, now that I haven't heard back in SO damn long, im actually starting to get really f***** worried that i won't get accepted because I qualify for Financial aid and since the school (and the whole damn country) is in such a financial crisis (especially the UW, with freezing spring acceptances and all) they might just decide to not let me in because of money. I know that my stats are not exceptional, but i'd always thought they were pretty damn OK enough for UW, being in state and all. Plus i didn't take slacker classes and my seniors schedule involved 3 APs...

any thoughts on why I haven't heard back being because of my low EFC?????

seems that lots of people, even at my school have already heard back with my same stats or less (i even saw some out of state kids with lower gpas and sats that got in already...)

f***, and thanks for any input.

cman- i am still in the same boat as u and getting %^(*&#$ angry especially with all these OOS admits UW is a state school, Period.

wow…that would be awful if true! I didn’t apply for finaid and heard back right away. I did wonder briefly about that being the reason I did hear back so quickly (3.8UW 30 ACT - not much higher than yours).

I have watched this process three different times with three different kids (and a few years I didn’t have kids going thru UW admissions too). There is no strong or consistent pattern that has EVER been discernible re: when kids get in. Don’t make yourself paranoid by trying to figure it out. Many many very qualified kids don’t find out until end of March…or later. That’s the truth. Relax. Everything is still on schedule. Good luck.

Does University of Washington- Seattle take ACT?

coolbreeze, all colleges take ACT.

thanks caseyatbat, reassuring to say the least.

The only reason I’m worried is because of the unique circumstances that our application class is in… I didn’t know if there has been a precedent set or not.

Ok this is real worst case scenario thinking butttt if i don’t get in, is it worth appealing to show that I will in fact be able to afford the school somehow?? And, I could bring up the fact that i’ve gotten a 4.0 this senior year with 3 APs

When we were visiting UW in Feb., there was an article in The Daily saying that admissions was overloaded this year with a record number of applications and not knowing how the budget cuts were going to affect admissions so they were still in the process of deciding admissions and it was a very difficult year. I wouldn’t be surprised if many admissions were late this year and that there will be a larger wait list. Since housing is opening later this year, it seems that they will be admitting through April to give everyone a chance at housing. That is just my opinion. So hold on guys and keep your hopes up. Good luck to all.

cman, don’t worry, I am pretty sure you will get in. My daughter was in same situation with very similar stats as you. 3.79 gpa, 1840 sat, applied Nov.20ish and also was very upset until March 11th. Her status changed to "reviewed… and her unofficial transcript uploaded and recieved the letter three days later. Cman, financial aid has no burden. I know this for sure. Infact, we have lower EFC than you. I helped my other two daughters get into colleges(IVY LEAGUE) and I kind of know what it takes to get in and I will tell you, you will definitly get in. And if you don’t with your stats, I will be very surprised.

Even in not so unusual a year, UW admission notices have historically been sent well into first weeks of April. We are OOS, and I have known kids who have found out so late that they were unable to reserve spots for the weekend at the end of April when the greek system has their open house. UW has a history of sending out the latest admit notices of any school I have ever seen. Which shouldn’t be a problem except for the fact that they do these random early acceptances that make everyone else who is waiting CRAZY.
Hang in there. You can’t outguess the system. And I have never heard of anyone who has successfully petitioned…but my experience there is very limited.

Yes, all said is true. My school sends a large number to UW every year and this year only a handful of us have heard back. Last year I know some were admitted the second week of April. After reading the above posts, I don’t think finaid has anything to do with it.

Don’t worry, my friend applied like way before you and her status is still the same as yours, and I’m pretty sure she’s qualified enough to get in. UW is pretty weird and unpredictable, especially this year. And hey, not hearing is better than being rejected, right? I know a few friends who’ve gotten rejected in the past couple of days.

UW GPA isn’t University of Washington GPA, it’s unweighted. ^^

However if you go to a WA state high school, find how your school’s grade inflation can deflate your GPA upon application.

So what UW does here is finds your HS and takes your HS’s grade inflation out of the equation by using former students U of wash GPA.
