Hi, my S was accepted ED (hooray, etc.). He has a pretty full course load (7 classes) for first semester including APs, Calculus, etc.
For second semester, he was going to pick up an additional AP Hist class, but is wondering how good an idea this is (it would be an 8th class). If he doesn't take it, or doesn't take the AP version of it (taking the Regular History), does he need special dispensation from the AdCom? Anyone know who he should talk to? Thanks for any advice.

If he put on his application that he would take the class, then yes, he should inform his admissions officer (or, if he can get through, the Dean of Admissions). Unlikely that it will make a difference, but there’s no need to guess. Ask them.

He does need to notify the college of the schedule change (our GCs are quite firm on this), but it is unlikely to have any impact on his acceptance.

Thanks all…He got ok from ED college (they were incredibly nice about it) but the HS wouldn’t let him drop it (I guess too many 2nd semester seniors tempted to do so).
So we’ll see how it goes and keep our finger crossed…

Last year, my son wanted to drop his second semester of French after early admission. I told him to call the college and ask what they thought–I was sure they’d tell him they preferred for him to stay in his foreign language. They didn’t care, and he dropped it.
