ok, i just had argument with my friends about the grade that comes out on January 24th.
Knowing that all the school that I'm applying to have deadlines before January 15th, would this grade that comes out this quarter (in the block system, second quarter) be on the secondary report that our counselors will send to the colleges? or would the colleges see it after I was admitted?
(In other words, do I still have to keep up the rigorous, straight A type of studying for this quarter, if I'm not a valedictorian?)
Thanks

well aren't they going to see those grades in you mid year report if you apply regular?

but before they make the decision? or after?

My guidance counselor told me that Midyear grades are sent after the deadline, because our first semester ends after the deadlines as well (Jan. 31st). Your school probably does this as well, but you will have to confirm with your GC.

I talked to my counselor and she said "I can cut some slack" for second quarter (which is equivalent to semester in other schools, because we are in block schedule)
But, my counselors have never been really well informed and sometimes had flaws and I do not want to trust them 100% with their statements. So I'll ask you guys:
1. Does the final grade of the first "semester" (which is second quarter in our school) go into Midyear report, in GENERAL?
2. If my second term grades are reflected on Midyear report, would getting 2 Bs and 1 A (I've only received 5 B+s so far) at the end of the "first semester" hurt? (hurt so much that they would reject me, although I was a competent candidate?)

Schools of my concerns are:
Princeton ED
Stanford
Johns Hopkins
Carnegie Mellon
Cornell
Harvard
WashU
UPenn
UCs (CAL, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB)

thanks again ppl

If you want to go to Ivy colleges or Stanford, you shouldn't get into the habit of not putting effort into your academic work. Just keep trying to get all A grades and you won't have to worry as much.

Now to answer your questions:

Final grade of the first semester always goes on the Midyear report. This is important to colleges, as a decline in the first semester of senior year will hurt your chances.

B's never look good when you are applying to top level colleges. They all have their choice of thousands of students with straight A's plus great EC's, etc. Having B's outnumber A's on your Midyear will put you at a disadvantage where you are applying.

I asked my counsellor to include my mid-term (not semester) mark in the mid year report because the first semester doesnt' end until early feburary and marks wont' come in until mid or late feburary. I hope it's okay. is it?
