You are headed into a professional field that does not pay well relative to many others. The kind of debt loads you are considering are beyond excessive. They are absolutely life-crushing, even for students who are planning on well-paying careers. Please, please do your future self the favor of looking around for options that won’t require any more debt than the Stafford Loan maximum.

How did you receive your financial aid yet for pratt? I just now received my packet about an hour ago, with 15k a year merit scholarship, but they said financial aid would be coming out sometime in the future. Pratt is pretty much out of the question for me, since my efc=0, but did you get offered any other grants or anything, or was the only financial aid loans?

There were schools my son (as well as his older siblings) just couldn’t go to for the same reason.

It was quite a reality check for them.

It doesn’t look like Pratt is going to work out for you. :(

When our kids were applying, we made SURE there were options on the table that our family could afford. We would NEVER want our kids to take on the kind of massive debt you mentioned, regardless of major. Fortunately, S has a major that offers pretty high starting salaries and more reliable work, but D’s more creative field is much tougher to know IF you will get a job & how much such a job might provide (feast or famine is pretty common for artistic endeavors).
