ok, i can't believe i'm finally doing this...

...but the wait is messing with my mind.

i have a 3.8 at Northwestern, which would have been that much higher if i didn't take pretty much as difficult a classics course as they offer as an extra class last quarter (in addition to applying out).

i went to private school in nyc, and because of well documented extenuating circumstances, finished high school with about a 3.1. clearly, my essay explaining my circumstances when applying to northwestern, as well as my sat score: 2260, held some merit in getting me in here in the first place.

now however, i've found that its not a great fit for me (not to discourage those of you applying here, everybody else seems to really like it), and am applying to several schools, including yale, columbia, penn, and brown.

also, in high school i was an all-city (general) and all-state (privates) athlete, though i am probably not good enough to participate at anything higher than the club/club-varsity level. here, i have gotten involved in a few ec's (guessing greek life doesn't count, though maybe philanthropy committee of my fraternity will?)

in my essays, in addition to talking about how the social scene here isn't really for me, i focused a lot on how i would like to do one of the interdisciplinary programs, such as PPE at penn, or ep&e at yale, which northwestern doesn't offer.

i feel that my college work and sat scores, combined with the legitimate explanation of my high school grades, should give me at least a look at each of these schools, but am desperately looking for other opinions.

thanks so much in advance

I wouldn't necessarily focus on the social as much as finding a better academic fit.

I think your college GPA and SAT scores exemplify that you're a great student, so I would not put too much concern on your HS GPA. Clearly, you are more than capable of thriving at a strong institution and as long as your essays are strong I think you'll do very well. Good luck and keep us updated.

bump.............

What more do you want to know, a 3.8 at Northwestern is very good!! You'll be able to get accepted at many top universities, just make sure you have more than 30 credits when applying and your high school credentials will be hardly looked at.
