What the deal is with acceptance with a Linguistics or any other "unpopular" Social Science major at Berkeley? People say it's hard for any Social Science major to get into Cal, but how can Linguistics, Ethnic Studies, African American Studies , etc. majors be thrown in the same basket as Psychology, Economics and other capped majors in the Social Science Division? I've heard different answers to that question and the fact that I don't even know approximately how competitive I need to be to be considered makes me anxious.
Does anyone KNOW what the deal with "unpopular" Social Science majors is at Cal? Do we really need the same stats the other Social Science applicants need to be accepted?

Sorry for asking this again, but I'd really like to know where I stand as an applicant.

Don’t worry, you got rejected.

they do not post stats for individual majors but UCLA does, so just loosely go by their statsi mean the wait wont me much longer. from november until now and u only have a week left

Meh…are these “chance” threads really even necessary at this point? It’s less than one week before all decisions are posted from all schools (including Berkeley).

On that note; go to UCB’s Website and look for their admit % by major (it’s published somewhere as I’ve seen it numerous times; you just have to do some digging).

Finally, from what I remember, you have above-average stats. As such, your individual outcome will have much more to do with how the admission officers view you as a person (ECs, essays, experience, grade trends, courses taken, etc.) than it will on whether you meet presupposed “cutoffs.”
