Hi, i'll be business major at kelley next year and I need some ideas about dorms. I have narrowed it down to Briscoe, Foster, or Teter. I just don't know if I should pick Central or Northwest. I don't want Southeast cuz its soo borring. Is the Northwest partying scene too intense? Is central to far away from athletics? Also anybody have any experience w/honors housing? Im considering tht

My son is in Teter on an honors floor. He's very happy with the location. Kelley is close and he doesn't complain about the distance to his classes on the south end of campus. He walks to all of his classes as opposed to taking the bus.

He had season tickets to both football and basketball this year and managed to get himself there with no problem.

His experience living on an honors floor has been a good one. They manage to have a good time doing normal college kid stuff, but also know when they need to get serious. Having high achievers around helps keep the motivation level high.

You pay a little extra to be on an honors floor ($100, I think), but then they use the money for the benefit of the floor. This year they took a bus trip to downtown Chicago for 3 days/2 nights over Martin Luther King holiday. Stayed at the Sheraton downtown by Navy Pier, went to see Blue Man Group, lots of touring, transportation, & most meals included-- and all it cost each student was $100. They also bought a big screen TV for their lounge.

Initially, he wasn't sure that an honors floor would be a good fit. He worried that the only people who would choose honors would be way too serious about academics & not want to have any fun. We pushed him into signing up for an honors floor because of some of the drunken horror stories we had heard, especially in Northwest. We knew that honors kids would still probably drink, but hoped that the "fun" would be tempered by an attitude of high achievement. All in all, it turned out to be a good choice.

I've gotten into Kelley, too, and actually just got back from a visit to IU.

From the students I spoke with, the majority of business majors opt to live in the Northwest dorms, as they are closest to Kelley (and give the most opportunity to sleep in)...Central is generally the second choice for Kelley kids...I think more partying goes on in Central (but don't quote me on that!)

Overall, central isn't incredibly far from northwest (or the Kelley school), so either one works. If you want an honors hall, though, you would be in Central.

And as for narrowing between Brisco, Foster and Teter, you can't specify a specific dorm, just the general area (ie. NW or central)...unless you're in one of the learning communities.

Hope this helped!

It stinks walking from central campus up to the athletic fields. The walk is a mile, and not very pleasant in the winter when it is cold. If you go to sporting events (football, basketball), get Northwest.

I live in honors floor in Teter and the walk to the stadium is not bad at all. Even during the winter the walk to the basketball games were not bad. Theres and honors floor in Brisco but the problem with that there is a hill that you need to walk up when you come back from any of your classes in Kelley or otherwise. Also the walk from Brisco to Kelley is longer then the walk from Teter to Kelley. Even though Brisco and Teter both have honors floors, it is my understanding that the atmosphere is completely different between the two dorms. However, that being said most of the people living in either of the dorms seem to have a positive experience... it all depends on what your looking for.
