Hey everyone. I'm a first year student at a cc after doing a year at a PA school (gpa wasn't too hot.) I was wondering if it is it possible to transfer from a community college to the school of arts and sciences for the spring, then transfer to the business school in the fall (if all prerequisites are met)? Or is there a certain number of credits that need to be taken at the SAS first? I was thinking of taking econ courses at SAS and maybe getting a minor, then doing accounting at RBS.

I will have ~60 credits by the end of fall 2011 already from the CC, but my cumulative GPA is too low for direct transfer to the b-school. (~2.9) So I figured I could start clean and get the GPA nice and high in the spring.... Any flaws with my plan, assuming a great GPA and all req courses finished by summer? Another option would be applying to Newark business and then transferring back to NB biz, but the commute doesn't make it worth it to me. (I live in Piscataway).

I agree that it would be wise for you to transfer to the school of arts and sciences first, complete the prerequisites there, and then transfer to Rutgers Business School in NB. Even though your GPA isn’t very high, you have quite a number of credits. I would say it is easier to do a school to school transfer within Rutgers. You should apply for spring '12, complete your prerequisites, and then apply for 2012 fall to NB business school.

My brother just got admitted to Rutgers Business School in NB for fall 2011 from a community college. He will have completed all his prerequisites this spring.

Thanks for your replies. I’m starting to think it’s not such a good idea to do a school to school transfer after reading that link, looks like I need to take 45 (!) credits at RU to be eligible. I have taken around 5 so far, and will probably pick up only around 14-19 during that spring semester. I also read that the course availability for spring is pretty limited too…maybe it would just be better if I hold off until fall 2012 and apply then?

You can definitely do that but you need to have completed all the prerequisites by the time you enroll. Depending on what classes you are in right now, you might not be able to do so. I believe you must also complete at least 54 credits before enrolling in the rutgers business school program.
Finally, I think that it would be better to complete all the prerequisites at your current college so you can immediately start at the business school.

Hm yeah, I would have completed all the prereqs by the fall of this year. I’ll apply for SAS spring 2012 and see what happens. I’m guessing its easier to do a school to school transfer, and I was pretty interested in economics anyways. Thanks!

Hello all, I am going to apply to Rutgers NB and Rutgers Newark SAS for spring 2011… I have a 2.7 GPA at brookdale community college… with all pre-reqs completed and 42 credits. I’m also taking a few classes fall semester to get my GPA a little higher. Do u guys think I will get accepted or my GPA is too low?

Hey man, I’m no expert but from what I’ve gathered Rutgers Newark is less competetive than NB so you stand a better shot at that one…but honestly I’d take more credits and get that GPA over a 3.0. That’s what I’m doing now and if all goes as planned I’ll have 60 credits under my belt and a 3.5 GPA, which will be more than enough to get me into my schools of choice…

xoxoruinfo. You are applying for spring 2012 not 2011 right? :)

Given your stats, I think you have a good chance at Rutgers Newark and decent chance at Rutgers New Brunswick school of arts and sciences. Your GPA is a bit low but you have quite a number of credits.

Thanks guys! Yes, I’m applying for spring 2012. I really hope I get in this time… It’s the 3rd time I’m applying… So hopefully they see I didn’t give up?? First time I didn’t have enough credits and a good GPA. Then I applied again for fall 2011 - got accepted to camden… But NB and NEWARK said I didn’t habe any math classes and I needed to show them a math class… So now i took a math class. So let’s hope I get accepted for spring 2011. If not, do I have a better chance getting accepted with an associates or really makes no difference?

To xoxxruinfo:
I don’t think associate degree will matter much. There is however, a law called “lampitt” which states that state universities in NJ must accept all the general education credits from CC in NJ.
What is your major? what math class did you take? I am from brookdale also :)

Hey, my major is political science. And I took math 151… Newark and NB said they didn’t accept me because I had a W for this math class and I need to take it over and then apply again. So I’m going to do that. I hope I get accepted. But idk why the math class even matters that much… It has nothing to do with my major.

I feel ya. I am a science major and I have to take english lol. Is this the only math class you took? I am not quite sure but I don’t think math 151 is transferable at all.

No, I took a couple math courses… Just now. I have none before and am taking more summer semester. They just wanted to see my basic math classes at brookdale… because remember I said I had a W… So they wanted to see that class taken over. Because I had a 2.9 when I applied to Newark and Nb. Why else wouldn’t they accept me? My GPA wasn’t that bad. ESP not for newark… So now I’m hoping I get accepted for spring 2012 … Why is it that I got accepted to Camden though? Is it way more easier then Newark?

How many credits did you have when you submitted your application back then? I believe if you have less than 30 credits then they would want good HS GPA and SAT scores.

How many credits are you taking this summer? What about fall 2011?

U dont know how tensed I am I really hope I get in. This is the 3rd time I’m applying!!! Well when I first applied I one had like 12 good gpa but horrible highschool transcript. Got rejected. 2nd time I had 30credits but no math course except one with a W so NB rejected me and Newark got my grades in too late so the didn’t even reconsider me so it was bad luck. Now I have around 42 credits I’m taking 12 in the fall and 4 credits in summer … Ill apply ahead of time. And hope they accept me!!

If anything. I’d get an associates and transfer … So if I have like a 3.0 . I’m guaranteed acceptance from Rutgers? Transferring from a community college with an A.A?
